Arcade Fire for 2013 Headliner?

was at hyde park last night - sound was fine on the right where we were . I must say they played wake up too early - I understand why they did it but it didnt quite come off . the set built and built as the night went on and it would have een great to hear wake up after sprawl .

what the fek was going on with the toilets ? 1 tenth as many urinals as normal - if its the same set up for wireless there will be murder done

I think they could but no matter what anyone says they haven't got enough songs that the general public will know. You'll find it extremely hard to find somebody who doesn't like Arcade Fire to name anything other than Wake Up - that's if they even know that. I know they've headlined festivals before (and very well, might I add) but I get the feeling Glastonbury needs big, jaw-dropping headliners, and for the majority of the public, Arcade Fire aren't that.

I think we'll find them subbing on the Pyramid next time around, but not headlining.

They definitely could. Crowd was huge at the Other in 2007 and they are bigger now than then. Of course, 2013 is a long way away, but I think the fact that they haven't before makes them more likely to now. I think they are more likely that Elbow tbh.

I went to Reading last year and couldn't believe the size of the crowd they received. Once The Libertines finished it seemed like everyone ran to get to Pendulum. As a result I managed to get to more or less the front barrier and was absolutely blown away

Therefore I went to see them last night and yet again it was amazing. The sound where I was stood was perfect, but I was in the middle which must have helped.

When I heard them say they would be back in 2 years I immediately thought of Glastonbury and in my opinion they can only headline, yes there are bigger bands but they have gone from strength to strength since there headline show at Reading

Anyone whose seen them, in large Venues or otherwise, can be in no doubt they could pull it off. I also think that, having won the Grammy, their next album will be played far more widely in the US and to a slightly lesser degree in the UK. It's all relative though - personally I'd struggle to name or sing along to three beyonce songs and she was hugely popular with many people. I can see AF happening but with someone like gaga or madonna on one of the othe nights...

Would be brilliant news if they did ...just look at their coachella set from this year for any doubters of their ability to headline. Despite the shocking small crowd at reading, they still smashed it and more fool those who didn't see it.

Surely must be high up in the running for 2013.

Saw them headline Leeds last year and although the smallish amount of people there were really up for it, just got the feeling they don't really suit the new Reading and Leeds demographic (Pendulum much more so).

I think it would be a perfect booking for Glastonbury and a massively important booking for Arcade Fire - it could see them reach new heights in the UK, especially if their next album is anywhere near as good as the last three.

Shame they weren't booked for 2011.

Easily big enough to headline. If they can sell out their own gig in Hyde park, headlining Glasto would be no problem. At Reading they absolutely nailed it, everyone who saw them thought they were fantastic. And that's to a crowd of 17/18 yr olds. The average Glastonbury go-er is much more likely to be an Arcade Fire fan than the average Reading go-er. Also, I don't buy this 'need a load of singles to please the crowd' thing.

They probably will have another album by, or around, then. They're a proper big band - two sell outs at the O2, Hyde Park, headlining other festivals, all without 'hits'. If they release another album that's as critically acclaimed as their last three and it has a song or two that crossover (something they haven't had happen yet, but I bet they try for next time - they are not a band without ambition) and this was their last UK gig till then, then yes, they'd not only make for a great headliner, but they'll probably be quite the very big one too.

I pray they do, especially as a new album is in the pipeline, depending on how that goes (it's a jazz genre it seems) it could really be a masterstroke.

I just worry that booking the headliners is a risk now, as much as I'd love to see Elbow do it, I think Eavis would worry about the originality about it and I don't see anyone from 2011 headlining.

I've seen them quite a few times now, from in a church that holds 300 people all the way up to glasto 2007 and hyde park last night. The smaller the venue the better for sure (but the same can be said for 99.9% of bands) but they can also definitely pull off the big stage too. Last night was really very good. 2007 was a funny one though, I dont like the other stage at the best of times, I can only remember a handful of bands who have blown that stage away (flaming lips 2010 being the most recent) but there was definitely something missing that night. The dreadful weather probably didnt help and I recall it sounding too quiet (perhaps weather related)

In summary, they could pull of a pyramid headline set for sure. It would need to be LOUD though.

Probably could be filed under 'Connecting With The Crowd', i.e. "We could have been at Glastonbury, but we'd rather be here playing for YOU!" (big cheer, feel the love, etc etc)

Arcade Fire an definitely headline in 2013, and should! Would be one of the greatest sets the pyramid has seen imo. For me 2013 has to be Arcade Fire, Elbow, and then one rising star, it upsets me that we dont see anyone on the rise headline. I suppose it could be argued that KoL were the last ones but now its seems to be already big names with one epic legendary booking ie U2 Stevie or in 2009 case 2 legends

Arcade Fire could eaily headline and put on one of the most memorable headline sets the festival has ever seen. they were nothing less than magical last year at leeds and would be ten times better at Glasto. If they're available they have to be booked.

Do we really need to see elbow again? Cant imagine they will top their performance this year to be honest.
