Arcade Fire for 2013 Headliner?

Of course I'm serious. I adore Nu Metal, it truly is the 8th wonder of the world. So brave and breathtakingly original. I just cant get enough of it.

My other true love is costumes. Oh how I love a band in fancy dress! Like mumford & sons. It's so cute!

So imagine, costumes AND nu metal, in one awesome package called SLIPKNOT! It's what dreams are made of.

My dream glastonbury headline line up:

fri: limp bizkit

sat: linkin park

sun: slipknot

I'm guessing James has just creamed his undies right about now. Sorry James! We must get together for a mosh sometime

I didn't say they were from the UK, I have no idea where they are from and care even less. What I meant is they sound like every other indie band - slightly off key, slightly off rhythm, four chords, poor vocals, simple song structures, poor musicianship...

I'm no Slipknot fan, I'd need to lose 35 years and a shedload of cynicism, but they are OK, they turn it up to 11 and they are a technically competent band with a huge following and a taste fr the theatrical. I can't actually think of a band I like who could headline - Tortoise might be OK at ATP, but not Glastonbury.

So I was at a little family gathering yesterday and I got speaking to my Uncle (haven't seen him in ages) who is a technician for bands especially in lighting. He told me that he was part of Take That's Circus tour, and the 2012 olympics, among other things (he really likes to brag!).

Anyway; he asked me about the recent gigs I have been to and I told him about AF at Hyde Park and he told me that he was with them that day doing lighting as well as their UK gigs last year. I asked him whether he was doing more with them, he said "Not now, but they want me for 2013, around the summer time. I don't know the venues but one of the dates is on the last weekend of June.". I just went "cool", Then I later realised what he was getting at.

Surely they are set in stone now anyway.

I always said I thought it would be a stretch for Arcade Fire to sub-headline this year, even under U2.

I would say that by 2013 there is no chance they would do - look at all the festivals they have headlined.

I think they would be superb, they should have headlined this year instead of *yawn* Coldplay.

The dream lineup would be Elbow, Arcade Fire and then a more leftfield booking.

It would be truly wonderful to see those two bands headlining the greatest stage on earth.

I don't see why they'd do anything less than headline, considering they're headlining festivals all around the world and doing a bloody good job of it. It's odd to think how shocked people were, including their fans, when they were booked to headline Reading and Leeds. If they headline the Pyramid, I think it will be a proper Glastonbury 'moment'.

I also reckon the next time Elbow play it'll be either as a special guest or headlining.

As much as I love all three bands, it would be a bit samey if we did get Radiohead, Arcade Fire and Elbow headlining. A bit like getting Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young headlining. Massive acts to get, but all hitting a similar demographic.

I wouldn't say they're quite big enough to headline really. I can't see them getting much bigger than they are right now and they weren't big enough to headline this year. Other stage headliners though for sure.

Before Glastonbury I would of agreed with you but all the people I spoke to about them considered them to be the strongest sub, and they went down an absolute storm. Though I think they'll have another big album, with some 'one day like this' and 'grounds for divorce' size hits.

As has been said, wouldn't have radiohead, arcade fire and elbow as pyramid headliners (though I'd love them to) as, compared to say u2 beyonce and coldplay, they are relatively samey. Giving elbow a guest slot and someone like gaga or madonna the third pyramid slot seems a bit more in-keeping with recent years...

I was at Hyde Park last night, seeing Arcade Fire who were incredible.

During the break in one song, Win Butler mentioned Glastonbury and how great it is. Also as they walked off, Butler said: "see you in 2 years", which seemed an oddly precise thing to say.

Now, I'm sure it was an off-the-cuff comment, but what with the next Glastonbury in 2 years AND Michael Eavis saying plans are in place for all 3 headliners already, could Arcade Fire feasibly do it?

I'm sure they would pull it off, and with names such as Elbow and QOTSA being touted as possible future headliners, I reckon Arcade Fire could be a decent shout to be there or thereabouts.

Thoughts?
