2013 Headliners

Imagine if the Stones say no... (quite plausible). From Eavis's point of view this years festival really does rely on them playing IMO. A potential trio of Arctic Monkeys / Mumford and Sons / Kanye West etc would be the one of the poorest set of headliners the festival has had. I imagine they're pinning everything at the moment on the presumption they are playing.

But then, it's not about the acts Glastonbury right?

Back in the 90's the Prodigy were unrivalled for their energy on stage. Now as excellent as their music still is - they do come across live as a group of middle aged men shouting a lot.

I would still go and see them against most bands if they was on though

The Prodigy are a force of nature. Defo one of those bands you "get" or don't get. I know it appears like men shouting over loud drums and stuff but its really not. Theres a much deeper connection with their audience believe it or not! Similar to the way great lyricists connect with people. the Prodigy have a sort of primal connection granted, but a connection nonetheless.

i've only seen The Prodigy once, at Leeds '09, and whilst the band were great (this was before i'd gotten sick to death of them / Invaders Must Die) the crowd was just awful. i regrettably got down front and got the shit knocked out of me and had to retreat to the back and felt like a cripple the entire rest of the weekend. that's probably got a lot to do with the Leeds crowd rather than the band itself, but it's soured my idea of going to see them again. that said, interested to see where they go with the new album

FF - Not sure how many times I've seen them, well into the teens anyway, and I've seen two good festival shows from them out of 5-6 I think. Glasto and Rock Am Ring. Saw them headlining Oxegen a few years ago and Liam seems to get pissed off after about 50 minutes and they played Out of Space and fucked off. Hes a proper arse is Howlett.

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
