Wait a sec...something is ringing a little tiny bell of recollection. Might be wrong but a gun getting waved may have happened in 99 too but didnt actually go off. I do remember it getting shut for a bit (I only lived a few hundred yards away from the Dance Tent that year).

yep, there was a shooting incident in 94 because we were caught up in the huge crowd near the NME stage. It was a bit spooky, lots of rumours going round and we were all stationary in a huge mass of people for half an hour or so, if my fuzzy memory serves me right.

I should note -- I didn't notice this flood of North-Westerners. I was more struck by the number of Sloane Rangers and Hoorah Henrys.

I would not rule out that a CT member organised these thefts. They even had a Paypal scam running before the festival. This is the Internet, and they are just strangers.

I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to you, but I do agree that it's really unfair to imply blame on the CT crew. I was on CT and found the company to be delightful. I'd been quite nervous about doing group camping, but it proved to be a wonderful experience, so thank you to everyone who made it so.

It's a horrible thing to have endured and I hope when your rage dies down you allow yourself to heal from this because harbouring such hate and pointing it in desperation in so many directions will only hurt you in the end and that would be the greatest shame of all.

My purse got stolen from the Rifleman's, I think. We left our tent like a bombsite, much like Lucy. I dont know if anyone went in but I imagien if they did they'd have thought someone else struck first. We lost nothing on site, even though I did forget to put my DSLR into a lock-up until Thursday evening. We were fortunate. It's a shame that luck comes into it, but that is the way of the world. Please don't let hate be your compass. Life is too short.

Thanks for taking the time to post here JT, nice to hear from you again. I did use the odd bit of 'generalisation' to try and point out to the OP as an example it's not just at Glastonbury that crime happens. Of course I used California to hit the point home. I accept I should've has done that, it's just that I was hurt by the OP's post.

I've been all the world, blah blah, but I never judge a place based on it's worst stats.

How ever, the OP first came to these forums asking for help and advice on these boards. He was welcomed into the triangle. I went out my way to pick him up at Stonehenge camp site and gave him and his girl friend a lift to a B&B on the Tuesday. On Wednesday on site, I guided them by phone to just below the park, then came and met them both and gave them a hand to lift their gear to a spot that was saved for them withing the triangle.

I am truly sorry he was robbed.

This is what gets me.

He comes back to the site that has helped him and his girlfriend. In the title of this topic he imply s, that potentially some of the camp trianglers may have been his robbers.

I love Glastonbury festival, so does every one here,

yet he calls the place a sh*t hole.

Because of the dramatic title of this thread, it has drawn a massive audience, over 14, 000 hits. I wonder what impression the next wave of solo fliers or first time newbies to Glastonbury will get of .

SoCal - if you ever read this -judging by the way you have reacted, not to being robbed, but to the kindness shown to you by people from this forum, the UK and any other place in Europe, will be pleased that you are going home and will not be coming back. :angry:

If you really want to be safe - just don't leave your home town, you wont make many friends, but at least you will be safe... or will you?

Thursday, instead of walking around exploring, our day was spent trying to find where the police headquarters were located. 99% of the people on site, including security, that we asked, did not have any clue as to where it was. Using my brain, instead of the brains of the morons who were just happy to be on site with a free ticket, I thought perhaps it was up by the main farm. We walked that way, and finally, the last person we asked, about 5 minute walk away from the farm, knew how to direct us.

First of all I would just like to say how sorry I am that you've had a terrible experience at Glastonbury. As far as things go you've suffered probably one of the worst things that could happen at Glasto and it's an experience that must be extremely distressing and off-putting.

BUT...

I personally take offense to the whole attitude of tarring the whole festival, country and people within with disdain and scorn purely on that fact that you've have a terrible, yet highly uncommon experience. As other's have said it's important to get perspective.

Whilst Glastonbury (and of course England) is generally a very safe and pleasant place to be there are always going to be those within that unfortunately do not share our same thoughts and feeling of that we want to just be and co-exist together. The whole notion that the whole of is on some massive conspiracy against you is just purely absurd as I can sincerely say with great pride that most of the people in the festival would all do anything they could to help you and to make you feel at home.

At the end of the day each and every one of us is a statistic - shit happens, and it's not usually for any reason, it's just because it does. You think you're hard off - just think about how those poor bastards feel in Japan who've lost all their shit, nobody's fault - it's just one of those things.

No disrespect meant, but perhaps you're somewhat naïve to believe that you can travel half way around the world to an event of this scale and believe that nothing will happen... And because of this is the reason why the festival has secure lockups and there's also many Glasto first timer's / international visitors sites and guides online available for perusal and that should be consulted before travelling to the event.

I am proud to have Glastonbury which is one of the biggest festivals and in my view, easily the best in my country and what's more, I'm also proud of my country as being a very safe, homely and welcoming place to all those who would choose to reside here - so please, gain some perspective and realise that it's not necessarily the festival or even this fair country that is at fault and perhaps in future take your own personal steps to ensure you don't become another statistic. After all, you are an adult supposedly able to look after yourself are you not?

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but I say what's on my mind & what needs to be said.

I am genuinely sorry you've had a bad experience but please, do not write-off the consideration of at least visiting this country again - you may well be surprised if you can at least open your mind and give it a chance.

What an utterly painfull thread, and im not talking about the op's story..however horrible that story was. Im talking about the breakdown in general loverlyness between everyone in or out of CT who attendeds Glasto. lets not start rib digging with such malicious vigor, remember who we are..a bunch of great guys who go and have a fabulous time at the best party on earth. I could like others, get into siting people posts and pointing fingers and generally finding something to rant about, but i wont. CHILL GUYS its not the end of the world. I guarantee everyone who didnt have a bad time will be at CT as devoutly as i will be in 2013. See you there with bells on!

Another +1 for the lockups, but I often don't get to them as often as I should. Instead, what I normally do is this:

• Sleep with head at zip end

• Keep any valuable stuff at my feet when sleeping

• Keep cash in lots of different zip-up pockets

• Take valuable stuff with me when I go out

• Leave test in a right state

I should really use the lockups more, but if you find them too much of a hassle, then some of the above can help. The important thing is don't leave valuable things in your tent where thieves can get to them.

The thing is for the majority on this thread, they're not saying the OP deserved what happened, of cousre not but the main thing is is a major help to some solo flyers and to make out like it's a have for robberies is just wrong. It's horrible what happened to the OP but really it could've happened in any campsite but if it happened elsewhere they wouldn't have had a group of decent people who'd try there best to help them out.
