Surely with Oasis, The Beatles, Cast, Mark and Lard, Stuart Maconie, The Liver Birds, Bread, Coronation St. etc. etc. etc., everyone has more than enough exposure to these accents?

most of the country lives in the south, where their knowledge of Manchester is set by football and not music. The 'Manchester' accents they get to hear are mainly London ones. :P

I'm from London and never been to Manchester or Liverpool, but the accents are very easly told apart. The Scouse accent is quite high, and sing-y, a bit like the Cork accent. Manc is a bit gruffer, but not quite as all out "i say I say" as a Leeds accent

I would not rule out that a CT member organised these thefts. They even had a Paypal scam running before the festival. This is the Internet, and they are just strangers.

My son and I have been at Glasto, separate tents, every year since 1998.

98 & 99 we used Family camping, 2000, 02, 03, 04 we were somewhere around the Pyramid field top cross-road, 05, 07, 08, 09 Pennards in or around , 10 & 11 Dairy Ground up near the Paines Ground boundary. We moved to Dairy for 10 after, for the first and only time, our - and by our I mean mine, my son's and the other 8 tents of my son's mates - were all entered on the Wednesday night of 09. They were only looking for money and my son know's that he was a prat that night in that he had just left his jeans + wallet on the floor of the tent, and so lost his money from that. Hence why we moved to Dairy Ground in 10 and I also take additional precautions to deter tent entry - tent peg down the inside zip tag, caribiner together the inner tent double zip tag, in addition to what I have always done about hiding valuables on my person.

However I note that SoCal lost money and passport, but, given that he appears to have been able to post to this forum whilst still in-situ, I have to assume that he didn't lose his 'i-phone' or whatever he is using.

So, good to see that he has his priorities right - protect the i-phone but don't take care of passport.

I would never, ever, in any circumstances whatsoever, ever, ever, ever put my passport at the slightest risk of being lost or stolen whilst travellig, wherever I was - England or the US of A.

Hahaha, brilliant. And then we set up the big shiny flashing arrow on a stick above SoCal's tent that read 'Oi, thieving Mancs and Scousers, this tent's the one you want!'

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Unless we know for certain that the crime was committed by a Manc or a Scouse, I think it would be least offensive if people stopped assuming it was now.

As if there are no bad'uns from Bristol or London, or even from -- gasp -- smaller towns, at Glasto.

Me, I put my smartphone, wallet, house and car keys, and most of my cash in a lockup as soon as I entered the festival. All I carried with me was a low-value old Nokia, enough cash for the day, ticket and lockup receipt. It was a very safe and liberating feeling, to be carrying so little of value.

As a posed to theiving Cocneys and yokels?

To many aspersions are being cast on the perceived dialect of a few.

They were, regardless of location in the country, thieves pure and simple.

Can we just use that word; unless you know different from his year and this instance.

Come on now...hope you are not falling for those words.

CT had nothing to do specifically with helping Lucyferr to the G, that was an Efestivals Glasto Love collective who helped her along to the fest. No SCAM involved whatsoever either. I hope Droneoid YOU are taking the piss too my friend.

This thread is turning people against each other. :(

Really?! Someone was shot in 99?! I know someone got shot (at Bjork, I believe) in about 94-95ish, but I had no idea there was a shooting the first year I went!

There was the case of a gun going off as people exited over Oxlyers Bridge after Bjorks set in 1994. Dont have any recollection of anything else since then.
