They have more hits behind them now than they did in 95, and how do you know they have no new material? I could argue this forevermore, but taking the fact I love them out of the equation, the fact of the matter is, if the Verve could headline in 2008, there is no reason why Pulp can't.

Don't think they are big enough really, no new material means theres no chance.

I really love pulp and will be watching them wherever and when ever they play but they just haven't got enough past hits to pull it off IMO.

Other stage headliner on other hand would be perfect or second to top Pyramid...

Wait, so Pulp might now headline like they deserve? Minutes ago, I just bought my flight and ticket for Primavera. Aaaaaah. Oh well, if I did Glasto, then I wouldn't be able to afford to see Portishead and Jeff Mangum at ATP in October.

But still, I am going to be so depressed at the end of June when I hear about everything that happened at the farm and watch all the BBC-sourced bootlegs.

So it's U2, Coldplay, Pulp then? Seems a good set of headliners to me.

As for the 'biggest bands in the world' thing, that quote from Eavis along with 'you won't believe who we've got' was given before Pulp had announced they'd reformed. If he knew he had them then, he'd be understandably excited.

All of these words are more applicable to The Verve than they are Pulp - yet The Verve got to headline when they reformed. So Pulp headlining is definitely within the possibilities of the Festival might do.

But I view the Verve as a massive boring mistake, they were absolute shit and forgotten within seconds of finishing. I hope I'm right as I want a truly world class headliner that isn't U2 or coldplay....

Pink floyd (i know, probs impossible)

Paul McCartney

Prince

Arcade fire

or even better someone I can't think of that will blow me away.

Pulp would be brilliant anywhere else on the bill but a waste of a headline slot just like the verve.

Yeah, kind of what Megabowl says there. I'd quite like to see them, will probably be elsewhere at the time though, but if they are headlining, you really can't say it's a bad booking from GFL's point of view. I'd have no problem with it.

I really don't see why Arcade Fire couldn't headline the Saturday, especially seeing as Coldplay have done the Friday and Saturday headlining slot before, and U2 are nailed on for Friday (providing they play).

Pulp subbing Arcade Fire would keep both the new Glastonbury goers and old happy - one band who's got a place in Glastonbury history already and one that will create theirs.

No matter whether Pulp could headline or not, I honestly think it would be seen as a step back for the festival. Pulp don't have relevance any more.

Blur certainly weren't a massive mistake so you can hardly blame GFL if they follow the same 'reunited Britpop band' route, especially for someone like Pulp who have a place in Glastonbury folklore.

Pink Floyd - don't exist

Paul McCartney - not touring

Prince - Glastonbury have tried but if he won't do it, he won't do it. Nothing announced in Europe at all, only US gigs in February

Arcade Fire - can't do Sunday, aren't bigger than U2/Coldplay so if they're the Friday/Saturday headliners AF are subbing

I don't mind whether Pulp headline or not, in fact I'm not even bothered if they play but being objective I'd have no criticism of GFL if that's what they go for.

I can't be arsed anymore! This is going to go round in circles forever isn't it? I'll just remember the people complaining about Stevie Wonder headlining last year and remember how wrong they were as well.
