yep - I'd say they match The Verve on many levels, but are a band that actually have a far greater number of people with interest in them at the current time than The Verve did when they headlined 2 years ago.

So they trump The Verve in suitability as a Glasto headliner, I'd say.

I think the indisputable size of the headliners in 2009 and 2010 has perhaps created an unjustified perception that certain bands are not big enough to do it.

But it'd be impossible for Glastonbury to continue with headliners of the stature they've had the last coupler of years - there just aren't enough acts of that level.

IF it is Pulp on the other, they wouldn't put them against Cold Play. From the current strong rumours, U2, CP and TT the only one that would make sense (to me) is against Take That. U2 clash would mean a small crowd and they wouldn't want that on a reform show. TT and Pulp have differnet audiences and would split the crowd.

Just imagine the arguments between couple's that are in their early 30's and the missus is still in love with Mark Owen and the bloke wants to be Jarvis.

Leaving aside the fact that TT are defo not booked, you've got the whole idea of how they split the crowd wrong.

So Pulp are actually a very good candidate to do that, and people will have to make their choice - I'm more than confident that if the fest decided to do that, Pulp wouldn't end up with a small crowd

I said they wouldn't put Pulp against U2 because the stragglers will go to see U2, as will the corps and Dad's, and Pulp IMO would need a decent size audience to justify a positive reform - if they are playing to 10/15k it's not going to be seen as a success. An example for who I'd put against U2 is Bjork, big artist but not traditional in a mainstream sense.

Take That fit a bit better because it's different genres and appeal to different audiences.

Prince / Pulp clash would kill me, thankfully can't see it happening.

Again thats assuming my three headliners which may or may not happen and Pulp on other stage (I don't personally believe that).

i'm with you, jimmyt. i don't really like u2 and i deplore bono but i'd likely take a meander over to see what the fuss is about and no doubt enjoy it. this year the mockers were put on that by having the flaming lips against them had they played. no way would i miss them for a quick rubberneck at bono. same goes for pulp, there's no contest in my heart. hence why i have a feeling, if pulp get booked, a clash is likely. it would be a good crowd splitter.

I hate to say it but you have got it totally wrong. ME is so frightened of a "Roskilde" happening that he tries to find any way he can to stop there being a single massive crush for any one band. The best way to do this is to play big-indie-band vs big-indie-band meaning that not everyone can make the same choice.
