Yeah and: "Only if she walks out arse naked with Beyonce, both with the old rabbits nostrils glistening in the sun like a slick of gulf oil, and perform vile lesbian yet athletic sexual acts on each other while an animated 3D John Bonham plays the intro to When the Levee Breaks.".

Betcha some twat will post that.

I don't see it as being ridiculous to slate someone on the grounds that they are successful. I think she's talentless and always has been. The fact that she's whored herself round the media circuit for 30 years and managed to use PR to hide the fact that she is - at best - musically average, just reinforces the fact that popularity isn't directly linked to quality.

lol what complete bollox! Like I say, I'm no Madonna fan, but you don't get to sell 300 million records with no talent! She has reinvented herself successfully for pretty much each and every one of her albums. What annoys me about this site is the majority of Glasto goers who are supposed music lovers, yet there is so much strong negativity for artists they don't like! Fine if you don't like their musical style but to slate them for it is just plain dumb! Madonna as an example, has had 11 highly successful albums and is recognised as the world's top selling female recording artist of all time. So she has clearly shown that she has a talent for selling records whether you think she can sing or not, no?

I think it's ridiculous for anyone on this planet to say Madonna shouldn't headline. The biggest selling female artist of all time, highest grossing tour by a solo artist, the list of accolades she has achieved is endless. I personally think it would be great for Glasto to have her if we are to believe that U2 and Radiohead/Coldplay are the other headliners.

Oh and 4AssedMonkey. Just listen to the Ray Of Light album and Like A Prayer album. Examples that she is a great musician, and yes she did write the music and lyrics, albeit in collaboration with someone else. So maybe give it a listen, you never know, you just might like it... just thought i'd point this out after all the rubbish you posted about her.

And yes she does put on a FANTASTIC show, probably the best show-woman in the business. Just what the pyramid needs after all these years.

I don't mean to sound overly negative and I agree she is a huge artist and has a career that on paper would make her a worthy headliner. You do however touch on a couple of things that illustrate my point.

"She has reinvented herself successfully for pretty much each and every one of her albums."

Yes she has. Usually to try and tap into the current zeitgeist to help maintain popularity. She has never had a recognisable and unique style or identity, which to my mind, great artists do have. She doesn't create - she copies.

"So she has clearly shown that she has a talent for selling records whether you think she can sing or not, no?"

A talent for selling records. That's right on the money. Not a talent for writing music or lyrics or singing. Her reinventions and PR machine are a way to keep her in the media spotlight and promote her next 50 minutes of recorded drivel, which the unwitting and dumb populace fall for.

Like I said - popular but not necessarily musically talented, just good at working the media.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a large part of her show the spectacle of the set & all her props & fancy stage bits? Can't see it being possible to give her that sort of set up on the Pyramid stage because of time / space constraints etc.

So would her performance then not be lacking a large part of what supposedly makes it such an impressive live show?

I've listened to Madonna albums/singles many times (in fact the ex was a big fan) and nothing ever really appealed to me. I will give anything a listen and let my ears decide. With Madonna they decided somewhere between "f**k off" and "meh".

At the risk of being a stuck record, I see that her status would warrant a headline slot. I'm sure she'd draw a fair crowd and they would probably have a good time. I just wouldn't be there. That's all.

It's fascinating that Madonna is so devisive. I think criticising a performer, artist or whatever Madonna is (perhaps entertainer is the best word) for trying new sounds is a strange thing to levy, because it's Madonna people use that as a way to knock her. If it were a "credible" artist this experimentation would be applauded. No one criticises Bowie for it.

For my money, I'm in two minds as to whether Glasto is the right place for Madonna however if it is true that all music is welcome at Glasto then why not Madonna? She has had some massive hits and across all the different re-inventions, producers, pointy bras and pictures of her mimsy, one thing has been constant, and that is somebody somewhere has an ear for a good hook can't help but think that has to be her.

My Glasto philosophy has always been that you should never be listening to something you don't like. If you're not enjoying the music just move on and let those who are get on with it. Luckily everyone else seems to do the same. I've never heard a boo at Glasto. So bring her on. It'll be one of the biggest gigs of her career and could easily be the final nail in her coffin or the start of another 30 years for her. Just please, no Like A Virgin at 80 years old.

Borderline = Tune!

Oh Father = Tune!

Live to Tell = Tune!

Anything after Beautiful Stranger = Dog Shit

She should have grew old gracefully, learnt to play guitar, release some acoustic stuff!! Her need to be seen as a disco diva still is embarrasing. Grow up Lady!!

...but what enables you to see through the PR veneer? Are you more insightful than those who say they like Madonna? Maybe, it doesn't come down to PR, and it is simply about different tastes?
