It just occured to me that the big festival reunion bands this summer (System Of A Down, Pulp, Slipknot & Darkness) I've seen before they broke up, where it use to be bands like Faith No More, Pixies, Smashing Pumpikns etc when I was too young to have seen before.

having my son say 'you remember pounds, shillings and pence. How quaint!'

And remembering living through new technological advances. Like microwaves and mobile phones. And games systems and PC's. And still having our original vinyl records, remembering music cartridges and the VHS/betamax contest. Growing up with a black and white TV with a really snowy picture, an outdoor loo, no fridge and no phone. And going to bed with my radio tuned into Radio Luxembourg as a pillow.

And especially, having to live through another period of Tory rule. :(

I dont feel old...except when my knees hurt, although my wife is 35 and is 10 years younger than me.

But, I have no idea who 30STM are and have never knowingly heard them and I'd rather listen to the Archers than radio 1

I quite like their music, but they're intensely annoying live. They try too hard to do the audience participation thing, and it comes across as a massive ego trip. You had to do their sign, and jump, when they told you to. And then you became 'part of the 30 Seconds to Mars FAMILEEEEEE!!!!'

really, really irritated me, it did!

Getting excited about music from my past that's still around. A mate sent me a list of upcoming gigs in my part of the world and I thought: "Great - The Carl Palmer Band, I remember seeing him when he was in ELP, Richard Thomson, I remember seeing him with Fairport and Roger McGuinn, I remember seeing him with The Byrds."

They're all legends but ones who can still do it. So in a way I don't mind being old because I feel lucky to have enjoyed and still enjoy a life of great music.

Kids who've missed out or who don't know who I'm talking about can apply for an explanation in writing - but don't expect me to reply by text.

Even though I was only 7 in 1991 I often think that that was one of the best years for music.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic,Nevermind, the black album,Use Your Illusions,Ten or Vs i forget...so many legendary albums released that year.
