For at least the last 10 years there's always been a Dolly rumour doing the rounds. I fear it's always been wishful thinking rather then based on any hard evidence but I'm still blindly getting my hopes for next year.

It been a little while less than ten years.

A few years ago I googled around to try and find the original source for the yearly Dolly rumours. The earliest mention of it I could find was a post made on these forums as a joke, which was followed not too long later by an nme story which picked up on 'rumours' from here and made a rather baseless story out of them.

Of course, since then, the Dolly rumour has become a regular thing, and Dolly has been asked in interviews if she's going to play. But as far as I'm aware it's still something without any actual basis to it.

This is the news you have waited all year for! Dolly Parton is very pleased to announce that she is planning to release an album full of new material on her own Dolly Records, worldwide! This, as-yet unnamed record, will feature new compositions from Dolly that have never been heard before.

In addition to a new album, Dolly also plans to tour in support of the release. Starting in early summer of 2011, Dolly will tour the United States, by mid to late summer she will be touring throughout Europe and she will embark on her long-awaited visit to Australia in the fall!

I was given some tickets to see Dolly at the o2 a while back & was surprised at how much I enjoyed it - would be a welcome announcement for me if it came!

I got some info recently from an exceedingly good source that she's definitely not playing this year.

But I don't think she's ever been in the frame to play. The origin of the very first Dolly rumour was a joke post made on these forums which NME read and acted on believing it was true. Since then it's taken on a life of its own.
