Just a bit.... and I'm an Ian Brown fan!!!

I've seen the Flaming Lips three times, twice indoors and once outdoors (supporting the Who at Wireless). Indoors they were one of the best shows I've seen with a real communal loved up atmosphere. The balloons, the people in fancy dress by the side, the hand puppet he got out for Yoshimi, the fake blood... all of that alongside some amazing tunes.

However I thought they struggled outside in front to a massive festival crowd. The spirit seemed to be diluted and that communal feeling was missing. That's why I've got concerns about them at the Other Stage. Now if they'd been at the JP tent I'd definitely have been there.

On a side note, has anyone heard their cover of Borderline? Its top drawer!!!

That is a fair point, they are much better indoors in a smaller venue (but then I think most bands are) but I would say they were ace in 2003, and that was on the pyramid. A lot depends on the crowd at festivals I suppose. If the crowd arent into it, it is never going to be as good an experience no matter how good the music is. Luckily the crowd in 2003 was great.

As for Borderline, are you sure you are not thinking of Stardeath and White Dwarfs? the band who have been supporting the lips on tour recently fronted by Wayne's nephew? I saw them play it, but if the lips have done a version too I NEED to hear it immediately!

Sadly glastonbury is pretty much the same these days.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were 2nd from top on the main stage last year and played a storming set with songs from right across their back catalogue. Unbelievably good, but of course it was watched by a miniscule crowd as most people were watching Glasvegas!

People are idiots.

As usual, Slim's all over this thread, good work fella.

Remember when Archaos circus headlined the pyramid? I'd f**king love them to be as brave with their choices now.

But, of course, they won't because the f**king mojo reading heritage rock deifying masses have to have their singalong moment with a 'legend' while moaning about kids not showing old people's music the due respect.

The Orbital/Dr Feelgood analogy is spot on.

Mind you, thinking about it, even Shakespeare's Sister headlined, are you saying Dizzee is worse than that?

As has been said, they will only play stuff from

The Soft Bulletin (best album of the 90s)

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (contains the greatest song of the last 25 years)

At War With The Mystics

Embryonic

All their other albums are fabulous but they wont play a single song from them, apart from She Dont Use Jelly

Also be aware that their live show is a joyous, life affirming, magical experience.

exaclty

Dizzee's fine for just having a drunken sing and dance to, but headliner? no way, he can't pull that off

if that's what happens i shall definitely be going to see Flaming Lips, even if i have to watch them on my own (as i have a feeling my friends won't be bothered about Dizzee headlining at all)

doesn't bother me in ths slightest. but a month is a long time and its not like there's a shortage of bands bigger than dizzee rascal who want to play glastonbury.

i'd really say thats a bit of a poor show if they do that. U2 are arguably the biggest headliner and dizzee rascal doesn't really even compare is you think about the number of, and music tastes of, people who bought tickets this year just because U2 were playing.

to be honest, i think they and someone else should really make the effort.

Seriously? Damn. I thought one of the best things about Glasto is the average age is supposed to be higher than at other fests.

That was a great set and I didn't have much trouble working the crowd during it to get up front for Blur.

    • I thought some time back that I could see Get Down Services getting a slot in Woodsies
    • Tickets on sale when I'm abroad (I'm assuming this sells out in minutes), and the actual dates could not be worse for me work-wise. Still going to try to get tickets, of course, but god damn!
    • I'm personally confident that Slipknot will be one of the headliners next year (no insider info just lines up with them likely releasing an album soon)    Then there's the headliner that's never played the festival before which the bookers have alluded to so that's one of Blink, Foos, NIN, Nickelback and possibly Pearl Jam or even Bon Jovi    The third band I also think will be a new headliner who are being bumped up so Deftones, Offspring, Paramore Etc.    I'd love Slipknot, Foos and Paramore but realistically i'd go with Slipknot, Blink and Deftones
    • Loads of people have to listen to music they don't like all day, while at work!   Not much different.
    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
