Christ you're obsessed man. Blindly obsessed. I like them too but the greatest song in the last 25 years, I presume you mean the first part of the title track by the way. I can think of several songs which I would consider greater from the last 5 months.

EDIT: They do put on a wonderful live show though, I agree with you there.

Do You Realize? is an amazing song, and is the one reason i kind of hope in the back of my mind that U2 pull out, so that i can witness them close a show with it

I think Glastonbury has a higher average age, it just tends to be very teenage around the main stages. As I suppose is to be expected really, most festivals are like that but Glastonbury has the advantage of far more places to go to avoid the Radio 1 massive

I love this thread. Been working all day and resisting the temptation to dabble on here & just read the thread right the way through. I love the Flaming Lips and have seen them several times indoors and outdoors at festivals, including Glastonbury. They're a perfect headline band at a festival & most certainly at Glastonbury for all that they represent about music and they have a great back catalogue. Plus a great stage show. However, I can understand it if the younger festival-goers are oblivious to their charms, whether that's because they're Radio 1 centric or just because they're seen as an 'old' band. I can also understand it if most of the people in their 30s or above say that Dizzie isn't a 'real' Glastonbury headliner. If (and it's a big if) Dizzie headlines, then I'm sure it'll be packed, the kids will love it and it'll make for a huge audience on BBC TV. And those of us who don't really get it, will go and see Flaming Lips and be 100% certain that we've made the superior choice.

I must admit, some of the posts on this thread have amused me - people thinking that the likes of The Smiths could resolve their differences, rehearse a full set of songs and get prepared within the space of a month - well, it's never, ever going to happen.

Similarly, people saying that Glasto would be the biggest joke around if Dizzee Rascal were to headline, when actually they'd managed to get the biggest band in the world to interrupt their US tour to play their first festival gig in years and years and years and would have been the victim of epic misfortune.

I don't like Dizzee Rascals music and wouldn't go to see him in a month of Sundays, but put things this way - Glastonbury has a tradition of making artists. Pulp, Damien Rice, Muse - these are just three acts from tons who've perhaps been seen as underdogs and used such a big stage to show what they can do.

Dizzee Rascal would be as big an underdog as any if he were to headline, and I'm confident that with the form - like him or not - and in my case not - he's on, he'd have the potential to shock people and propel himself to new levels and provide a Glastonbury moment.

U2 would be great, but if it had to be an artist in a sink or swim position on the grandest of scales, I couldn't think of a more fitting celebration for Glasto's 40th anniversary.

Whatever happens, there's tens of other stages to enjoy - it's less than a month now. Bring on the Glasto is what I say!

If Dizzee does end up repacling U2, he is going to seriously have to up his game from his performence at Radio 1 Big Weekend, it was orite for what it was, just think its need lil something more than a dj and his mate with him. Something ala Electric proms could provide headline material!
