Saturdays World Cup Game?

Hi,

I know its a music festival and a lot of people aren't interested in the football, but I just wondered if anyone knows whether there are plans to show the 2nd round England game.

If all goes to plan we should be playing on the saturday night but there is no mention of any football in the weekend line up.

Just wondered if any of you have heard anything. Surely they cant risk people trying to leave the festival in large numbers to watch the game...

I dont want to start a "should football be at glasto" debate, I know everyone has their own views on that but would just like to know.

Thanks,

I don't think anything has been confirmed one way or the other to be honest.

Though the gap in the Pyramid Stage late afternoon on the Saturday could be a hint?

I hope they show it up at Flagtopia or something so those who want to watch it can. I don't think I will. As much as I'm a footy obsessive, the line up is just too good this year.

We'll just have to wait and see what the organisers decide to do.

Would they really sack off 2 hours of music for a football game? I know the game will be popular, but people have paid their money to see bands so wasting 2 hours of main stage music for a giant screen seems a little silly.

I disagree.

I'm a much bigger music fan than I am a football fan but we've got 3 days of solid music, thousands of acts and thousands of hours of music, I don't think a 2 hour break to watch England play in a world cup would be an unpopular choice, I think it would be packed.

There are plenty of other stages.

Langdale Wolf > Are you seriously telling me you wouldn't watch England v Germany in a knockout round of the World Cup if it was being shown on a screen somewhere on site?

If they aren't showing it, I'll be attempting to get offsite and find somewhere that does.

euro 2004 at the pyramid - wicked - the year me and my best mate forgot our tent and bought an england fleece to sleep on. we lost to portugal. but it was brilliant - all my mates at home saw it on news at ten, all of us lot at glasto. ace.

It depends what time it's on. And therefore what it clashes with. But I'm prepared to miss it, yes.

No matter what happens, I wouldn't leave the site. It'd be a bit of a shitter, but I'm going to Glastonbury, and from a personal point of view, I'm going to a Glastonbury with the strongest line up I've ever experienced.

It means I'm going to have to make the sacrifice and forget about the football. I know it's not the same as watching it live, but I'll catch up with ALL the football when I get home.

    • Christ didn't even see that!
    • It does feel very bland. It would certainly spell another year (my third, I think) away from Pyramid headliners for me. That doesn't mean they aren't worthy, though. I don't follow what any of them are up to, as it isn't my thing. Good luck to them.   You would think coming off a fallow year, they would want one big hitter. 'Big hitter' is obviously open to debate, but that was/is Madonna. Let's have it right. The eggs have gone in that basket, and it seems (as far the rumours go) that it's blown up. So now you're left with another plan B/replacement headliner.   I'm still of the opinion that Oasis will do it, before the Oasis thing is all said and done. Probably 2028, if they can come to an agreement. It may transpire that 2027 is bland (or at least to some of us), and 2028 is a bit... wild.   Again, though, none of us categorically know ANY of the headliners, as it stands.
