As a Scot (ducks for cover) living in England it is interesting watching this debate

If I was at home I probably would watch the match- as I'm at Glasto and there's so much else going on I probably won't but agree with others that it should be shown somewhere.

Personally I think showing it on Pyramid or other stage is not a good idea as after all it is a music festival- but on the other hand is anywhere else on site big enough to show it and accommodate a potentially big crowd?

Others have said it worked showing it at the Pyramid in 2004- and I agree it did work- that was partly because it was a Thursday before the main stages had opened. I think as this is Saturday it makes a big difference

The discrimination against England fans continues to baffle me. Reference's to 2000's trouble is not 2010 and it is not an indication of the current state of English football, nor that of the average football fan.

Any old Tom, Dick and Harry can get on a plane and end up at a Euro/WC event and with a three lions top on they are all of a sudden the true reflection of the English footballing fan - for a start all England Fans are registered with the FA and have criminal checks against them.

I would put my life on the fact that the percentage of dickheads in the England fan base is no higher than that of your local town, or of that at an Oasis / Kasabian / Muse / any mainstream band. I’ve been to a quite a few big gigs and they are certainly more intimidating than a game at Wembley.

For an apparent mature and educated crowd here, there is a very polluted view between a football fan, and a genuine state of the demographics of the country. Football isn't a sole reason for violence / racism / twats etc; it might have been a catalyst on a few occasions and no one can condone some things that have gone on at West Ham / Millwall quite recently, but no more so than cheap lager, poor facilities, bad parenting, lack of security and countless other measures.

I've actually followed England home and away in recent memory, without referring to a different generation, and the general fan is as honest as they come. I've never seen us lose away (lucky omen! ) both before and after games have enjoyed drinks with rival fans in bars without encountering any more than good natured banter.

I can also guarantee you that the same can be said about many other countries, just our press does a lot better coverage of the bad side of anything.

Go and watch a game or three in Spain and come back to me about racism in the English game.

You can never eradicate trouble from the game, nor anything, it's a sad state of the world but people need to stop and think about whether the 20 idiotic yobs you see chucking chairs at some over forceful police group are a true reflection of the game, or in fact about what you encounter in your typical Weatherspoons every weekend.

I shall be watching the football no matter what, I love Editors I've seen them over 20 times, but they'll play again before England have a second round match at the World Cup, as will Laura Marling etc etc.

For me it's not a choice. That doesn't mean I don't deserve to be at Glastonbury or have a great time, i've another God knows how many hours to soak in the music etc...

I DO not know if this has been picked up already, i cnt be arsed to read through the whole thread, but if we (england) win the group then our match in the saturday will be a 7:30 pm kick off.

appologies if this has been mentioned already.

so, the tba on the sat morning are for acts i am sure and nothing to do with the workd cup .... so yeah, maybe dr who is the most likeliest of showings.

I really dont think Eavii will risk it. In hope that England come first in there group.

I think he'll have Gaga and TCV lined up for the saturday pyramid TBCs and then the england game could well be on elsewhere onsite.

Personally although I agree the football should be shown, I don't think it should be put on the Pyramid screens. It's an international festival which attracts people from around the world. If I went to America I wouldn't expect them to put The Superbowl on the Main Stage and it should be the same at Glastonbury.

And before anyone says it I'd feel exactly the same if it was Scotland. But if Scotland were in the 2nd Round of any competition I'd assume someone had spiked my drink and I'd go for a lie down.
