ME has cited Roskilde as the reason he doesn't want to go down this road, but I think really this would only apply to huge metal/heavier acts, likely to draw a large crowd on a main stage. Smaller acts could be quite safely acommodated since the crowd control measures required are a lot less. Even last year Enter Shikari played (they were garbage mind you), so he's not adverse to having "heavier" bands on the bill. I'm sure I saw Wolfmother as a rumour for this year, and I doubt he'd say no if QOTSA offered to play. Personally I love to see AC/DC on the Pyramid stage (but then they are really just a classic rock act)...

Tbh I think it's too wide a genre to be able to paint it with a 'no metal shalt play' tag. Pearl Jam headlined the Rokslide festival in question (if memory serves me correctly) and I think many people would say they'd fit the Glasto vibe well, regardless of whether they like their stuff or not. Same with the Foos I think.

Yes, there are morons that follow all bands (I remember many ppl kicked off in '04 about how they didn't want Oasis fans descending on the festival) but surely better to just decide on a band-by-band basis?

Well it seems from the responses that we do get the odd band of this type at Glasto. I am no metal fan so I don't know if Enter Shikari would be classed as a metal band. All would say is that if their performance last year was any way representative, then my vote would be a definite no! :P:P

yes, would drag me there (queue millions of it's not about the music maaaan types). Not necessarily metal acts, just a few bands with a bit of umph to them like queens of the stone age, pumpkins. The indie fad was great when it started but the quality of bands coming out right now is shocking and inoffensive, yet they all get booked.

F*ck U2 playing - I can quite easily live without seeing them at Glasto if I don't get tickets in the resale...

... If Pearl Jam and (especially) Faith No More (who are playing European festivals this summer) are announced, then i'm coming in on this baby!!

Yep... my music tastes are pretty varied!

(also pretty sh*t alot of the time too!)

I can't see FNM there. Patton is all about doing the FNM gigs to pay for his other more interesting projects, which is fair enough, i reckon. They play for dollars, not any other motives. I've not really got a problem with it, I don't like them/99% of his work, but he clearly does what he wants and is for better or worse a true artist.

not a massive fan of them but thought that NIN would be a good Glasto band. be nice to see heavier music getting reprasentation after all pretty much every other genre is on show.

More bands like f**ked up last year please :P Also could see Anti-Flag in the leftfield

I'm lovin the majority of opinions on here. most people are getting my point that I'm not trying to turn Glasto into Download or anything like that. I just don't understand how something like Hip Hop can gain a niche in Glasto and Rock/Metal seems to be shunned apart from the more alternative/indie edged ones like QOTSA (and that wasn't a bash at QOTSA or Hip-Hop - I like quite a lot of Hip-Hop)

never been a big fan of the heavy metal scene but i appreciate that glastonbury caters for all types, it wouldnt bother me if some did play, would just give me an excuse to check out one of the other stages.
