The important thing is that they weren't massive at the time though. Aside from Johnny Cash, they were only on 2nd/3rd albums or whatever, they were up and coming. Not like now where everyone needs to be at least 60 to play on the pyramid and anybody on the other stage is written off as scenesters.

I've been thingking about this while I had my lunch. Blur, for a big part of their career, were not really seen as anything that special, they were dismissed by a lot of people for a very long time, and the love for their reunion really surprised me. There was a lot of people bigging them up and going to see them earlier this year who sneered at them 15 years ago.

and the other point is that this is pre Johnny Cash's reinvention/rehabilitation as a contemporary artist and his American Recordings (I think only the first one of those had been released). He was still seen by most people as a bit of a joke, bit of an anachronism and there was very little interest in him from most people, particularly those under 30, say. Again, i went to see him cos I'd gorwn up with it and loved it, but got a fair bit of shit from my mates, the same people who were bigging him up a few years later.

I think one of the realy interesting movements or trends in music over the last 15 years in the move towards younger people listening to old people's music, and older people listening to current music. The generation gap in lots of sorts of music kind of disappeared in the mid 90s I think. I;m not entirely convinced it's necessarily a good thing, but it definitely happened.

I disagree completely, only by people who thought that Oasis were the be-all-end-all of music! I always liked both bands, it was so stupid that whole thing. Blur were always good (apart from Great Escape).

Mainly because Blur have some class and tried to be different and original, whilst Oasis are lowest common denominator singalongwithknobheadsbynumbers pish who released the same album several times...

Well it goes like this, I was her supervisor at work (warning bells all ready) and she wanted to go. However we could not roster her in as her leave request was very late. I said I would not go (as if) and would pick her up on the Friday from Highbridge station and we would go to a camp site in Somerset for the weekend and return Sunday evening so she could be back at work on the Monday......

Annnnyyy way..... I "forgot" and went down on the Thursday, bought a ticket on the gate and got muntered till the Monday and went home...... she was not impressed...... Really not impressed!

I have matured somewhat since then...... not much but enough

yeah, it seems special now, but only cos lots of them went on to bigger things, it didn't seem like an amazing lineup at the time, and there's loads of people on the bill who disappeared without trace too

A truly brilliant year for line-ups. I remember literally running down to catch African Headcharge, who were on early on the NME stage, as me and a mate had caned it the night before and had 'slept in'. Another good memory from that year was catching Revolutionary Dub Warriors somewhere up in the Green Fields after Bjork played the NME, but I can't remember which stage...
