John Peel Stage

I don't want any amazing Peel headliners unless said act is playing at the same time as a terrible Pyramid headliner...the whole Jarvis vs Bruce thing was brutal this year.

Would love to see in the Peel tent:

Asobi Seksu (long overdue...be sure to check them out opening for White Lies later this year and then leave early so you don't have to see White Lies)

Emmy the Great (incredible this year, needs to do multiple sets every year)

St. Vincent

Final Fantasy

Kiiiiiii

Deerhunter

Mono

Boris

Glass Candy

Amanda Palmer

M83

Islands

Los Campesinos

Girls

Menomena

Ramona Falls

Next year I'd like to see bands John Peel might actually have liked or did like (and by like I mean artist he signed or who played sessions would be a good start) rather than much of the fake indie that seems go on.

seriously right its the XX not the XXX

oh and theyre proper average although will almost certainly play.

hype.... dont belive it.

almost all the bands mentioned for headliners are far too big for JP.

doubt there will be any change to the "up and coming" indie pop shite bands on major labels on the line up which is a shame as im certain these are not be bands mr peel would have been supporting!

jarvis was a good booking last year tho.

+1 on los camp! would be ideal.

I think the XX are good, i was into Tricky though and they have the same vibe.

Would also love to see The Rifles, but maybe better at the Queens head headlining late.

Apologies for bumping my own topic :D , and for the over use of "x" s , freudulant slip you might say.

Again i disagree with Mr Memory man on the XX, i think they are very good up and coming young band with a good yet not unique sound. Their debut album is very good and as with new bands with good solo albums it remains to be seen after the hype if they can follow up their success..see Florence and the Machine.. White lies etc. But i believe they can. It's just after being hyped up by the Beeb.... as was the dreadful ( only in my humble opinion ) , Speech Labelle ( how did she ever win the Mercury Prize, its was behond me ), can they live up to it. Time will tell. But if they do play on the JP next year i will be there, as long as it doesn't clash with a major headliner like Radiohead , Muse et al.

Interesting idea, given The Fall are banned, that would mean....

Cat Power

Pavement

Buzzcocks

The Undertones (though they're without Sharkey)

Half Man Half Biscuit

Six by Seven

The Wedding Present

I did think of PJ Harvey and White Stripes but they're too big for the JP

I'd be well happy with any of

P J Harvey

Shed Seven

Weezer

Paul Weller

Portishead

Band of Horses

Therapy?

Whilst some of the acts mentioned here may well be too big to play the JP, don't some largers acts actually request it? I know Doves did this year because they were supposed to be playing a larger venue initially.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
