Missing The Traffic

I know it's a bit early for this thread but oh well. We will be coming down the M5 but last year hit really bad traffic along with everyone else. We ended up chancing on back roads and this worked very well. Is there an easier route to miss the bulk of the traffic

I reckon that getting 150,000 people into a rural area is gonna cause problems regardless. I think this year was particularly bad as the good weather made everyone want to go on the Wednesday, coupled with 2 serious accidents on the main routes in from the North and East. Consequently, everyone went the same way at the same time. Fingers crossed, the car park opening Tuesday happens and things go a bit more smoothly this year.

There will be traffic. Maybe not like 2009, with those motorway accidents, but there will be traffic.

If you're dead set on taking a car, then accept that you'll be queueing, stick the radio on, and make a party of it.

Oh, and leave some snacks in the car for when you spend hours trying to get out on the Monday.

Coming from Yorkshire we cannot really set off 9.00 am Weds to get there for lunchtime ! :)

So we were down the M5 around 3.00am Weds and it was deserted apart from the odd vehicle, most

of whom were full of tents and beer !

We had stopped off at a serivces in Tamworth for a coffee and break and , the only people there were on their way to Pilton !

We knew a short cut that involved a left turn by a Primary School and sneaking down a little used

lane at the side of a field that had a black horse with a white front left leg.

Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around the eyes, look into my eyes. And...you're under. There are no shortcuts. You must use the main road like everyone else. I repeat, there are no shortcuts.

And....awake.

It all depends where you come from but last year we came down the A37 from Bristol and hit the traffic queuing to go through Shepton Mallet waited in queue for 3 hrs so decided to let TOMTOM find an alt route. Well it worked but we had to turn around about 3 times due to TOMTOM thinking bridleways were roads came out by Pilton shop and straight in took about 30 mins after we left the queue.

I left Kendal at 11pm tuesday - had a leisurely drive down the motorway, a stop at the last service station before Glasto and was parked up by 8am. My friends travelled down the day before and camped to avoid the traffic took 5 hours to do 10 miles and didn't get on site til tea time....im doing my way again this year.
