Thursday bands - maximo park crush!

I was with a big group heading for Maximo Park on the Thursday (although I was just going along with the crowd - Maximo Park are the only boring artists on the Warp label.) We got within sight of the Queens Head, but by the time we got there, the crush was already happening and security were trying to barrier off the approaches. So instead we went into Chai Wallahs and sat and watched the bands in there whilst drinking Brandy Coffees etc. Brilliant. We saw two unheard-of acts there that were the highlight of my festival. (Some bloke with a loop machine, a guy with a saxophone and two rappers.)

That part of the site was particularly prone to overcrowding. We got sent to work down the Queens Head while they were showing the rugby and it took us half an hour to get through the crowd to the bar. They'll need to rethink the traffic routes or stop putting crowd-pullers on down there.

I'm totally against bands playing on thursday. The first 2 days should be for chillin' and catching up with mates. This is very difficult if everybody is running round watching bands.3 full days of entertainment sould be enough for anybody.

maximo park was well worth the 4 hours sat outside queens head to get in......sunburn and warm magners...woop!

the atmosphere was amazing espesh when it got to apply some pressure, got thrown around quite a bit.

Wasnt that bothered about seeing East 17 but had a wicked time and managed to meet brian harvey inbetween the time it was supposed to start and the time it actuaaly started.

i think a few good bands on the thurs was a really good idea, gets you in the swing of things, maybe a few more dj sets or somethin. i was a virgin this year, tried exploring on the wed and thurs but a lot of things we wanted to see werent open, etiher that or we didnt find what we were looking for.

Theres a middle ground her though.

We headed towards Maximo Park on Thursday but could see from a fair way away that it was a nightmare and gave it a miss. No big deal. Thurday isn't a proper festival day. If we'd been desperate to see Maximo Park we could've caught them later in the weekend. We just wandered off and chilled somewhere else.

I don't have a problem with there being bands on, I just don't EXPECT to get to see them. It's not a proper festival day, people need to chill to the extent that they accept that they might not be seeing any bands on Thursday. Theres 3 massive days to go - it's the complaining I can't get my head round.

I say ditch the idea of bands on the Thursday in Queens Head etc. There always used to be stuff on the smaller stages if you went out of your way to look for it, the first two days were all about exploring the site, meeting new people, now it seems the Thursday is going to gradually become a 4th day of music, great as it's added value for money but less so in that people will be less inclined to just wander about and see what's where, especially on their first time at Glasto. People should be able to make their own entertainment for 2/5 days surely!

    • Based on previous times that rules quite a lot out of early summer festivals into the August runs.
    • No dramas man, I just like to follow others journeys as well. Get the inspiration, give out inspiration and the outdoors is the clear the head place to do it. I'm heading out for a easy trail run today I think, 10k- 10 mile we'll see how we go. I've got a half marathon in October I'm well unprepared for hahs
    • The Cheap Thrills at Mountford Hall, Liverpool.    They've been around for a while and have built up a large local following. Last night was their biggest yet, at a sold out 2,200 capacity venue.    It was a big old joyous, indie singalong from start to finish, the band clearly having the time of their lives. The debut album is out next month and they seem to be going down well on the festival circuit, maybe their time has finally come.   2 supports, I unfortunately missed Credits but the few songs they have on Spotify sound good, Americana vibes. The other was M60, reportedly Gary Neville's favourite band. If that's true, he's as clueless about music as he is football. To be fair, their sound was poor, maybe with a clearer sound they'd have been better but it was pretty dull.
    • I can see them all merging along with the Tory’s . Restore curently couldn’t muster enough candidates to be a viable option . I lasted 4 mins and couldn’t watch any more . Lowe is just dull along with racist
