Increase in scum this year

I noticed a massive increase in c***s this year at the festival, selfish people who look out for number one, costing the festival it's spirit and risking it's license.

1) Already mentioned elsewhere - a MASSIVE increase in flags this year, not a slight increase but a huge one. Some of us want to watch the performers, and don't care what team you support.

2) Litter. oooooooo the litter. there's always lots, there's bound to be, but like flags this year saw a huuuuuge increase in litter. Walking around the site and seeing it all was a disgrace, much like the t**t I saw who was stood 3 yards from 5 bins and dropped his bottle on the floor. scum

2) Pissing in the streams / against fences / around urinals. Again, there's always some, but I cant remember going into a single urinal without seeing someone doing it, even for the smallest queue. The green police can scream and shout all they like but it didnt stop anyone I saw this year who was doing it.

3) Taped off areas in camp sites. This year I went with just 2 other people, but thanks to our gazebo we ended up as a group of 12. Surely that's half the point of them? The amount of people taping around gazebos and tent spaces was unbelievable I thought. 3 People were camped next to us, made no attempt to socialise, taped off their area and had the cheek to walk through ours to get to theirs, even tho they were camped directly next to a path! Also they had 6 man tents each, at least - they were huge. Selfish brats.

4) Stools, seats and picnic mats. I've never seen so many! Everywhere you went! Now I know people like to sit, and you need a seat for that in muddy conditions, but that's no excuse to sit dirctly infront of the stages, taking up space for 20 standing people. Most didnt even stand up when the bands came on so there's no need to be there. They have to be an elf n safety issue surely? I tripped on loads of stool legs in the dark in the middle of large crowds, had I fallen I could so easily have been trampled. I noticed they were almost all around the pyramid and jazz world - go and see some other parts of the festival for once! and the cheek of people who whinged when you stood on their mats - im sorry but if you think I'm gonna crush myself even further by tiptoeing around your mat, 10 feet from the stage you can feck right off.

Now I know there's people on here who'll just say "lighten up" and think anything negative said against glastonbury and the goers should be instantly dismissed, however these people spoiled the atmosphere I thought, posed risks (4) and risk the festival getting a license in future (2).

Don't get me wrong I had a fantastic time, met loads of people and saw some great stuff, but these things really ticked me off

The pissing in the hedges really grinds me, as did the rubbish left in the Other stage field.

It's a shame an increasing minority chose not to consider the fact that its a working farm and the damage they are doing to the festivals reputations when applying for licencing

There was a lot of rubbish, but it didn't seem as bad as last year, possibly because there was less mud this year.

The chairs were irritating during Bruce Springsteen, I nearly tripped over several chairs trying to get from the sound-stage to the urinals. Couldn't be arsed fighting my way back through the crowd.

The rubbish issue around the stages was mentioned to Eavis when he did his Q&A session in the speakers corner. He didn't seem to think it was that much of a big deal because it's all cleared up and off to recycling by the following morning anyway. Someone suggested a deposit system for the cups but he thought it would be too complicated.

I used a chair around site several times, mostly at the back near the jazzworld and park stages. I can understand it being annoying when they block access or are near the front, but don't have anything against people using chairs if they aren't in the way.

We went into the pit straight after their set for Bruce, at were greeted by at least 4 different groups of teenagers pissing into bottles and throwing it.

Nice. Put a dampener (no pun intended) on an otherwise perfect week.

Whilst I agree with the first poster - I think the number of actual real 'scum' as in nasty people were practically zero compared to the early nineties

I do think bins were emptied less rapidly than some years although I think that could be the result of more people using them making them fuller quicker.

I haven't been since 2002, but would stake and tape around the back and sides of my tent simply to avoid myself and others tripping over guy ropes at night. Even with a semi-decent torch it's hard enough to find your way without falling over several times a night.

Chairs are my main irritation, especially in the cabaret tent where everyone else is sat on the floor

Some good points here. This was my first Glastonbury experience and two of these points REALLY bugged me - the taping around your tent area and people sat in chairs in the middle of the crowd at the main stages. It's a good job that the Glasto crowd is so friendly - this would not go down well at some of the other festivals! At V or Reading - you'd get thrown out of your chair and have your tent tape ripped down.

On a plus side - I usually go to the V Festival; and the Glastonbury crowd are SO much friendlier. Still lively - but you see far less people pissing up against walls or into bottles, and less people agrressively pushing their way to the front.

It is the rudeness I can't stand. I had to leave Kasabian as I was becoming claustrophobic, I was so squashed and I had people barging into me, just pushing past and literally shoving me, I don't know how I didn't end up being trampled. My daughter got knocked over by a bloke with a rucksack on, he saw her go down into the people behind but carried on so I started to say no to people who were pushing past but then one woman threatened to smack me one so I left.

On the plus side I met the lovely Will Young in the Kasabian crush, he put his hand on my arm and said "Excuse me, I am so sorry but I need to get through." Lovely manners and extremely well spoken.

Am I the only one that thinks, other than the flag part, that there have been improvements on last year? I didnt see anyone piss in the bushes or rivers, just against some of the metal which is still dirty I guess but less than last year. The taping was nowhere near as bad as it was last year from my perspective. And I've seen aerial photos of older Glastonburys and it seems much worse! The litter situation was pretty much the same. I must admit I did drop and leave the occassional fag or can but I always made sure when not watching a band that I wouldnt do it. And I think I made up for that by leavin all our rubbish in bags this morning and before we left.

I also thought it seemed more crowded this year. Around the circus field was busier than normal, perhaps it was because the weather was better and everyone was out and about instead of huddling in the big tents

I have to agree, 2 of my mates were coming to find us in Blur and they were kindly wading through the crowd to get to us and when they arrived they spoke of a terrible experience. They tried to get past this woman who was sitting on the floor legs crossed and she was like, wher u guna go? you cant go through ther! my friends, said, yes we can, weve payed as much money as everyone else and im not goin to stand in front of you so walked past, then she put her foot out so my other friend would step on it, literally on purpose, my friend tripped on here foot and she started KICKING him! he couldnt be believe it, so they gave her some, thas not the glasto spirit i know!
