How I see it for the names mentioned on this thread

Time has now passed

Biffy Clyro

Extremely unlikely

Little Simz

Wolf Alice

Wet Leg

Inhaler

Wunderhorse

CMAT

Self Esteem

In a good popularity spot currently but feel like they will soon be on the way down

Noah Kahan

Charli XCX

Some potential for next album to be a big hit

Lola Young

Doechii

Gracie Abrams

I think that's a fair summary.  But seems like Lola Young is a bit of a mess as a live act - and Gracie / Doechii whilst being unknown quantities are a long way away from it at this juncture.

but in terms of rockier acts, in recent years only Idles and Fontaines seem to have built their reputation at the festival to the point where they are in the headliner? discussion (and even I'm surprised at how well Fontaines are doing...delighted, but surprised...maybe even ahead of Idles in the headliner stakes at this stage).

IDLES has peaked at this point. I bet Fontaines will headline on their next album cycle based on the popularity of Romance, which continues to get bigger and bigger.

Think you have confused sub headline slots Simzy was last year Raye is the one you need. On here

Otherwise probably a fair view but with the likleyhood from the before table that one will surprise us and step up.

For years I thought Tame Impala would step up due to being "friends of the fest" but that looks doubtful unless the next album is an absolute smash.

Doechii, Raye, Sam Fender, Idles or Fontaines will be in the discussions.

On what basis are Tame Impala friends of the festival?

Idles will categorically not headline Glastonbury.

I also imagine back at the time it was hard to pinpoint some of them as future headliners. Doubt anyone saw Dua in the tentin 2016 and thought she'd headline next time she played. But then she had that massive second album.

I remember seeing Dua in the JP tent in 2016 a year before her first album came out and, while rough around the edges, there was something about her that was effortlessly cool and had cross-demographically appeal. She was only about six months into touring at that point but you could see the makings of someone who could hit the upper echelons of the industry.

IDLES won't headline. Other Stage headline was as big a spot as they could hope for - they got that slot because festival were scrambling after the whole SZA thing. The same year they played Truck and Victorious and didn't headline either of those. It was also really easy to pick up free tickets to catch them supporting Jamie T. Luckily their Other headline set was very good and they pulled a decent enough crowd for it to go down well

Kevin Parker has made appearances around the festival for years and it definitely felt like they were a reliable act to book.

Have to see with Idles, I know their last set went down a storm. Though they are on the smaller side I know.

I agree with this. Lola needs to work on her live show before she is even in the picture.

It doesn't mean he is a friend of the festival though.

What on earth does that even mean.

Has an alleged good relationship with the organizers/bookers, and loves to visit/play there? Based on his appearances on Friday of last year, I'd say that is the case.

No it doesn't, but like Raye and Little Simz the festival gave them all a little bump to a higher slot quicker.

It means we'll have to see, you've said zero chance and I disagree.

The tone in your replies aren't exactly friendly and feel way off of what this website has been in the past.

Plus Coldplay have at least another 15 headline performances in them.

lord help us all haha.

yeah, that was a roundabout way of me to say that the headliners are likely going to skew younger and younger.

I think Fontaines DC have it in them - the next album cycle or two depending.

here in NYC they've just done 3 nights at a 3500 cap.  For sure, the next time they come around it's probably going to be Madison Square Garden (19K cap).  If they manage to do that elsewhere in the world over the next two cycles there's no stopping them

  • 1 month later...

Doechii seems an obvious one, but one that hasn't been mentioned at all on here is PinkPantheress. She's got that commercial/critical crossover appeal that makes a headliner, and she's still quite young - got a big career ahead of her.
