Your Pyramid Headliners - Ranked!

Recommended Posts

@Ben7amin_ mentioning the number of festivals vs no of Pyramid headliners seen got me thinking so have ranked mine. Ten festivals, twelve pyramid headliners seen. Full disclosure, did have to look up who headlined each year - misspent youth, etc.

1. Arcade Fire 2014

2. Blur 2009

3. Stevie Wonder 2010 (perfect close to a perfect festival)

4. Foo Fighters 2017

5. Elton John 2023

6. Muse 2016 (ranks higher than 2010 because of the group I was with at the time)

7. Arctic Monkeys 2023

8. Muse 2010 (I'll be honest, I actually can't remember this that well)

9. Radiohead 2017 (I enjoyed them but mates brought the vibe down. Manchester a few weeks later was better.)

10. Kings of Leon 2008 (had to leave early that year and missed the Verve)

11. Gorillaz 2010

12. Coldplay 2016 (superfan for the first two albums, dreamed of seeing them on the Pyramid since being 11, this gig confirmed the relationship was over)

Lol glad I inspired but not sure i can contribute too much this - I could try and work out where I ended up when the headliners were on -  I know I saw the Coldplay fireworks from I think Sarah Story at Arcadia

Surely it's easy to rank 3 of 3 😂

Mine are similar to yours. 13 festivals attended so far. Off the top of my head I'd say...

1) Blur 2009

2) Arcade Fire 2014

3) Paul McCartney 2004

4) Stevie Wonder 2010

5) The Rolling Stones 2013

I'm not sure after that.

Haha did some thinking and its actually 4 and 2 I bailed from after 4/5 songs -  (2013 was my first Glasto)

So

1 - Rolling Stones -  just a great show

2 - Arcade Fire -  I love them, I know it was debated if they were big enough but who cares was great fun

3  - Foo Fighters- standard show always blast but having seen them a few times now - its a bit the same every time

4 - Elton -  was near the back so sh*t sound negativity impacted was also absolutely shattered from being mostly awake for the last 5 days this impacted my enjoyment a little

not gonna say the two i walked away from as I know people get a bit triggered if you do not like there favourite acts.

Catching Floating Points B2B Four Tet in the beat hotel right next to the mega sized Adele crowd was my most memorable swerve the mainstages  headliner set.

Let the record show I missed Glastonbury 22 but absolutely mad jealous to catch Kendrick he was the best one i have had to watch on TV.

That Sunday was vintage. Didn't matter if you saw Kendrick, Pet Shop Boys or Bicep, don't know anyone who regretted their choice that night.

I missed 11 and 13 for career reasons and will always regret not seeing Beyonce and the Rolling Stones.

I’d certainly include the Stones, Elton, Arcade Fire & Stevie Wonder in my best of the Pyramid list, but slightly different, my favourite trio of headliners remains my first Glastonbury:

1. Radiohead 2003

2. REM 2003

3. Moby 2003

After posting that I rarely watch the Pyramid stage headliners - was I at Glasto 2003 I would have watched all 3 of these no doubt

Pretty solid there!

2009 with Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur was an impressive three too. Though I only watched Blur. Not sure where I was to miss Neil Young 🫣

There's an 11 year age gap between me and my sister and had it been ten years less I'd have been at that festival. I'd take these three as headliners now. *looks wistfully into the distance*

Ha, I will.

Walked away from Kings of Leon 2008 and Arctic Monkeys 2013. One man's meat is another man's poison etc 😄

haha to be fair on one of those Im with you but never got as far 2013 was my first Glastonbury so most of the group were well excited to go to the Arctic Monkeys.........   Me and one mate had a  a great time watching Django Django in the park then catching Hot Chip DJ in the rabbit hole - (had no prior knowlege of the secret venue just went for a pint and got led astray)  no regrets

Ive mentioned on here before (so sorry if you have already read)  - they probably look like they should have been headlining the Other stage next year. but they have not yet released the (very much ready 3rd album).  and it looks like while Matt has had some serious health issues they are putting there planned schedule back. Hopefully the chance of a big big slot at Glasto ship as not sailed and Id expect them to pop up for at least a DJ set next year.

Overjoyed by "very much ready", that in itself is a nice little Christmas gift! Was worried Matt's health had delayed the recording of it. But really good to see he is back out gigging already.

Just the two festivals under my belt unfortunately, so..

1. Elton 2023 - An all-timer. 3/4 back in the field and it still felt like i was up on stage with him. Impeccable set list. The only thing let him down were his guests.

2. Paul McCartney 2022 - Incredible performance. Let down by a slight lull in the middle of the set. Another for the ages.

3. Arctic Monkeys 2023 - One of my favourite bands and despite all the negativity. I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've been to the last 23 Glastonburys, I barely remember three years ago 😄 but some that pop into my head that left an impression:

Bowie

REM

Metallica

The Who

Macca (first time round)

No reactions left but that is an extremely solid list, not much to argue with there.

You deserve your 2024 moment for the effort put in!

2016 I don't think any of us had lower limbs left by the end of Sunday did we?

1. Kendrick Lamar 2022 (incredible stage show, had the perfect spot in the crowd, banger after banger, it was perfect)

2. Paul McCartney 2022 (went right down the front, just felt like such a special moment, could potentially mark it down as I was incredibly tired and didn't drink to perk up the day)

3. The Killers 2019 (my first Pyramid headliner, went down the front and was hooked. Endless fun)

4. Arctic Monkeys 2023 (Objectively not a great show - but standing at the back with my mates having a drunken singalong was exactly what that day needed)

5. Coldplay 2024 (again - a much better show than the Killers and AM, but I don't personally listen to them as much. Incredible singalong)

6. Elton John 2023 (magical moment, phenomenal setlist. But frustratingly my memory of it is tainted by how claustrophobic the whole thing was. Still a 10/10 though)

7. The Cure 2019 (incredible set, but I got far too pissed and barely remember it. Thankfully I've seen them a couple of times since and know just what I missed out on that night)
