2027 Headliners

Personally, I do hope Fontaines headline next year. Feels like it's their time in terms of the contemporary element - I know 2028 could equally be but I think (and speaking as an old git) they are probably the most significant band to emerge for a good few years, and they've already accumulated 4 great albums, let alone adding 5th, to field a memorable setlist.

Could Raye potentially be a headliner? If we're dead certain about a female headliner, that seems like a decent bet.

Is she any bigger than last time? Still firmly a sub for me. Not sure the interest would be as strong for her headlining.

I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.

One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.

And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.

2014 was the last time we had 3 new headliners with Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian. Interestingly, I could only see Metallica of those bands even remotely being large enough to headline again.

Prior to 2014 it was 2008 with Kings of Leon, Jay Z and The Verve.

Bollocks to “safe” headliners, bollocks to the masses. Get interesting, get risky, challenge people.

I don't really worry about headliners (unless there's a real possibility of a once-in-a-lifetime artist landing for it) but I'm starting to feel a bit cold on the names floating around bar Fontaines.

Harry Styles and Sam Fender, I can see the value and commercially speaking, they've earned it.

Sabrina Carpenter is obviously popular enough to do it - but after she's headlined everywhere else and done Coachella earlier this year, is it not just a bit predictable to follow what other festivals have done?

Ultimately Glasto is just part of the festival circuit, however special we may think it is. The vast majority of its headliners have done many others

She's headlining Reading and Leeds. Not to be sniffed at. She's also done her substantial arena tour since last time.

I think she's a decent bet to do it.

Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter is a very bland set of headliners. Commercially successful and makes plenty of sense, but it wouldn't be very inspirising. That said I want a band like Green Day to headline so who am I to say what exciting is.

While i whole heartedly agree with both these statements on a personal preference level -

ive come to reluctantly accept that bland is always popular and il normally just show myself to the other stages where the better times are to be had during the Pyramid headliner slots.

Yea that sounds like a BBC big weekend lineup. Centrist dad catnip. Not exactly Kendrick or Kanye.

It does feel very bland. It would certainly spell another year (my third, I think) away from Pyramid headliners for me. That doesn't mean they aren't worthy, though. I don't follow what any of them are up to, as it isn't my thing. Good luck to them.

You would think coming off a fallow year, they would want one big hitter. 'Big hitter' is obviously open to debate, but that was/is Madonna. Let's have it right. The eggs have gone in that basket, and it seems (as far the rumours go) that it's blown up. So now you're left with another plan B/replacement headliner.

I'm still of the opinion that Oasis will do it, before the Oasis thing is all said and done. Probably 2028, if they can come to an agreement. It may transpire that 2027 is bland (or at least to some of us), and 2028 is a bit... wild.

Again, though, none of us categorically know ANY of the headliners, as it stands.

I’ve said it elsewhere too but Emily Eavis said a 2028 headliner was booked, to me that’s only going to be someone the size of Oasis or Taylor Swift

Sabrina I actually think is alright, but as an overall thing including Fontaines in the mix it does look very boring.

    • This!   Biffy Clyro I don't think would ever get asked, I just don't think it us their scene and it certainly wouldn't be a wise move for them after how the Finsbury Park show went. If they ever had a chance of regaining or staying a bit higher up taking Slam Dunk isn't how you do it. For the cost of it now I think being into the main headliner does make a difference though.

    • I went to the O2 show as had cheap NHS tickets. I did love the whole Machine Gun Kelly vs MGK Emo/Pop Punk stuff amusing and could see that show going down well. I thought it was so funny watching the video skits of a die hard old skool fan gradually morphing in to an Emo Kid. That show with less old Machine Gun Kelly tunes and more MGK Pop-Punk would be ace.   Pair him against a heavy act on the other stage and jobs a goodun,
    • Not sure if this is allowed, but I have an additional daily ticket which I’m willing to sell for a heavily reduced price. If you, or someone you know wants to go that day, but wouldn’t for the original price, let me know.    Edit: It’s for Friday
