Sziget 2025

You are hearing it here first. The rock headliner band for Sziget will be System of a Down, sub headlined by Papa Roach.

They have announced US and South America dates beginning from August 27.

Which almost certainly means they will be announcing European tour dates for late July early August.

They would be a perfect booking to balance out all the pop and electro.

A) couldn't be further from the reality,

B) Papa Roach are already playing on the same day as Charli.

They cannot be sub headlined by Papa Roach because they are performing on the 6th August (first festival day) where Charli XCX is headlining

And you're hearing it first : Absolutely NO CHANCE.

HellFest were ready to offer them the same bill they gave Metallica (over 2.5M€). Not interested.

Guys, let me dream!

It’s not inpossible. The only reason why I myself find it hard to imagine is bevause most major rock and metal fests have their headliners already and it would be weird not to include them.

But it’s also weird thag they call their tour wake up, and rhey are chilling for the whole of summer.

Shavo is touring with Seven Hours After Violet in June so that might be the reason why...

I'm trying to reconcile a fest where Papa Roach effectively opens for Charli XCX. I have seen them both and like them both, but totally different vibes. Now, Papa gets a crowd fired up and ready to party. If they do stuff like their cover of The Prodigy's "Firestarter" then that might make sense. But they are a live band experience, and Charli practically EDM compared to that.

If Sziget's aim is to be one of those eclectic fests that puts radically different artists on the same stage to show just how alternative and jarring they are, then there might be some justification for this. Or maybe Charli is a Roach fan from way back. I just don't see how the Wednesday billing works...

I still wonder if Sziget is going to have a dedicated "rock" stage that is not the Main, but big enough to be real. They are reconfiguring stages this year. Would Papa then be a headliner for a "rock" stage while Charli does the main, and someone pop subs for her?

This goes back to the lack of direction the organizers seem to have around this year's fest. Sure, I like Charli and Roach, but not really sure I want to see them back2back. Oh, well, with enough Heineken, anything is possible.

Soad stated they will never play in Hungary after the government released the soldier from azerbaijan who killed the georgian soldier with an axe. I don’t know if that’s still relevant, but they haven’t played here since then.

Did not know that. Thanks for the info. It sounds a bit silly though. Like as if fans in Hungary are responsible or even if the government commited genocide or something. Surely there are way worse reasons not to do gigs in other countries where they do attend still.

They have Georgian heritage, at least the singer has. And also that release was a shady business. The killer was celebrated as a hero in Azerbaijan.

Sziget have always done this a bit though. In 2019 Macklemore was subbing the national, the main stage completely cleared out after Macklemore came off. Occasionally you do get back to back artists which flow well together but sometimes there is a complete change in genre between slots

And that was said by someone from Sziget on Fb a decade ago when they tried to book them.

However a few years ago SOAD did have a Budapest gig announced, tickets were sold out, but the tour didn't happen because of covid.

the best change ever, we came after macklemore was over and easily got to the second line for the national.

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
    • Yup and they aren't cheap   Glastonbury is different though, it's a place that will pack out for rarities they don't usually see. Download strictly speaking shouldn't be the strangest place for Avril to pop up of she had been a touring artist of longer times over the years.   Avril and GC would get the same billing for me and GC are selling arenas out quicker than Avril sold Ally Pally. Bearing in mind she'd pnly done soem Brixton dates before.
    • Avril gets above GC on rarity (see Cypress Hill this year). She drew in something like 70,000 at Glastonbury, so much so that they had to close the field off. I’d wager that she would get the biggest crowd of the entire weekend if she was to play DL.
