Brighton too, given it looked like there were two handballs in the move that got them their winner against Chelsea.

 

It has been suggested Birmingham's second goal might have been chalked off by VAR given there was a player in front of Pope in an offside position, although whether Pope would've saved it even without Laird there is another matter.

 

I actually have no idea if our first goal was over or not. But maybe this is the vision either back to the past or at least in the EFL where the officials do have to make a snap judgement call. Can see why given their keeper was behind the line when making the saves and I would hazard a guess the ball was at least 50% over. Whether that's enough is another matter.

 

Still, like Man City did earlier in the day, we survived the League One banana skin. So jolly good.

yep should have taken stronger backup to bring on definately , those players didnt play to potential . blessing in disguise hopefully

I guess if Liverpool move on from this by winning the Merseyside Derby, there's a degree of forgiveness as it'll help re-establish their position at the top of the table.

 

In isolation, I think it's great for the FA Cup that they got quite a bona fide big deal upset. Chelsea being out as well also raises the possibility for a more unfamiliar winner.

 

I would've added Spurs given it means one fewer big six/rich six/ESL six name but it almost feels like piling on at this point given their state of permacrisis.

Surprised they didn't put a more star studded line up out, especially as the Quad could of been on the cards. Under estimated opposition? Perhaps being new to the league. 

 

Favourites in the Carabao, will walk the league and a favourable FA Cup draw.

I mean, these things happen. Man City in the past had quadruples blown off course by Wigan and Nathan Jones, or that time they were knocked out in the CL quarters by Spurs on away goals.

 

It just looks as though winning a quadruple is just f**king difficult.

I think the line up is fine, but have at least3 or 4 people on the bench to change things if needed.

It was the right team to put out, Gomez getting injured early on was probably the catalyst for the result, with Endo having to go in defence leaving 2 youngsters in midfield. 

 

It was the lowest of the priorities now we're in the League Cup final, so I have no qualms with the team selection. Bigger game on Wednesday with the team that will play fully rested.

Well this evening could be interesting - Man City remain as erratic as they have been for a while, whereas Real Madrid have a balance issue up front and no fit right/centre backs. Could go either way.

For someone who works every weekend, midweek sport is a god send.

 

Champions league tonight, Merseyside derby tomorrow and then premier league darts Thursday. 😃

Game at the Etihad has been pretty good so far tbf. Not sure it needed 4 minutes to confirm Haaland was onside but it is what it is.

Not really. It's a meme hoodie from a fan site with Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall as the Wham guys and we thought it was quite something Tindall was legit prepared to go along with it.

 

I'm assuming Villa's bench were annoyed that Tindall came back after being sent off to begin with. The banter hoodie is probably just the icing on the cake.

The atmosphere was incredible. Less about the result (not a fan of celebrating draws quite that much against the future champions) but more about the occasion. It was actually one of the only games since pre lockdowns where there wasn't huge relegation pressure, as we've pretty much been in relegation fights from match 1 each season. It was nice to just have passion for it just being a Derby and the last night game at Goodison rather than being a must win.

 

I'm personally not going to miss Goodison that much as I associate it with constant failure, and the new place looks amazing, but it was nice to have one final exciting game under the lights. 

 

Moyes has got us some belief back, and is getting miracles out of a terrible group of players. And as fans its slowly helping us look forward to going to games, and to enjoy football again. Under Dyche, Lampard and Benitez it was horrible and all enjoyment was sucked out of it in favour of weekly "must wins" that we rarely won.

So Man City had a defensive injury crisis and a likely knock to their confidence after they let that lead disappear to defeat against Real Madrid on Tuesday, and we turn up like they're still invincible and we're still midtable upstarts, with a 4-0 result to match our usual scores around 2013-16. Good grief.

Still won and still seven points clear. I wouldn't press the panic button just yet, even if that second half was a surprising amount of chaos.

 

Still, gives me a degree of hope that the Carabao final won't be a foregone conclusion given both Newcastle's insipid face-plant at Man City yesterday and our historically crap record against Liverpool.

Farce? In what way? It wasn’t the comfortable one-sided victory we had last May but it was a good old fashioned derby with a fair outcome. The only controversy really was the decision to not give Bradley a second yellow (maybe Gueye as well….) but personally I felt Oliver got them right- would have been soft in the context of a game where tackles were flying in usually fairly. I certainly didn’t think they were as obvious as the red Konate escaped for his cynical Anfield 

challenge on Beto at 0-0 which led to Klopp taking him off as soon as the ball went out. Now that was farce.
