Here's a question. Has there ever been a secret set by a band who hasn't played the festival before?
Notable ones I can think of had all played before: Pulp, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Foals, Jack White, Elbow, Hozier, George Ezra

I’m sure there must be an instance where it’s happened, but it largely seems to be the case that its friends of the festival or acts who’ve previously played who do the secret sets. Suppose it makes sense that most acts don’t want their debut at the festival to be a secret one with a restricted audience.

I thought they were friends of the festival, that strikes me as odd tbh.

Yeah it’s weird, but I suppose they’re a band who are only as big as they are because of their members so a bit of a strange one to place lineup-wise. Feel like a Park headliner but most likely want better than that, especially as they have quite an impressive lighting rig for their shows that I’m sure they’d want to use.

Really not sure of that intel. Can't imagine they got much more than cider and crisps for doing Live From Worthy Farm.

Suppose there’s a limit to how many cheapies bands are willing to do for the festival, and I do think it’s equally a case of them just being hard to place at Glastonbury.

Besides, they needed to make room for Gossip and London Grammar to play.

I mean it's not impossible.....but there's nearly 30 years of shared history there - including secret sets, solo shows, DJ slots and popping up to sing its praises as talking heads - and presumably its been an under market value deal every time.

FWIW we were just discussing the secret set situation in the other place and came to the conclusion that there doesn’t seem to be room for one on the Park this year given we know the full Friday running order + the way the rest of the acts line up on the poster.

That Smile fee info is a weird one but the person who shared it was bang on the money on about a few things - Woodsies Saturday line-up and/or LCD and PJ Harvey on the Pyramid, as far as I remember.

Yep all the other info they gave proved to be good so would be odd for the Smile info to be off.

I wouldnt put it past Courtney Love to make an appearance - not with Hole -  but as a guest or as a DJ or something

She recently appeared with Green Day

And also recently DJ'd at the Portrait Gallery in London for Vivienne Westwood

She lives in the UK now and has been doing lots of press events.

No matter what you think of her, she likes to be seen, and what better place than glastonbury?

Courtney Love has been rather weirdly venerated on 6Music lately so guessing something is cooking. I mean I don't mind a few Hole tunes but there was some hagiographical thing going on that seemed totally out of proportion to her output.

Ok, glad it wasn't just me that thought that!

I am a fan. A big one.  But I am under no illusions about her either.

I think the first 3 records are solid AF, better than most of the output of the era.

But every time she's attempted to "come back" it's not gone as well as I think she's hoped.  I think she's gotten in her own way a lot, and lord knows she really can't sing like she used to.  I think she knows this, and so rather than try to promise new and ground-breaking output, she's trying to curate her own legacy, and write herself in the rock history books as the center of it all.  She's got great stories and who wouldn't want to listen to them?

It would absolutely make my glasto weekend if she showed up somewhere

    • Do you think they'll release today's cupra pulse lineup?
    • I had a great time yesterday and came to the conclusion that everytime (or, more accurately, both times) I didn't have a great time at Primavera, it was water-related. Either there was too much of it (Thursday 2026) or there wasn't enough (Thursday 2022, week 1).
    • I sacrificed the first hour of the cure for Role model yesterday and oh man that was a good bet! That guy and his band are insanely good and an hour long only bangers!
