Smashing Pumpkins are not a big enough name to headline this festival, correct? Unless it was opposite a less rock-oriented act, I think. If we pencil in the Pumpkins, they are probably a sub-headline act, maybe in The Killers spot, something like that. And Weezer the same, perhaps they would play on the same night for travel reasons.

We are assuming Stromae and Foo Fighters as headliners for two of the nights, I think, but I want to know!

Stromae is rather assumed to not show up. The most recent reports still mentioned him struggling with his mental health (barely appearing in public, for instance). Don't think he's already planning mass shows in 9 months.

There goes the first interesting name then…

Not worried as of yet though, plenty of rumours of other good potential bands circulating, but that’s a shame The National are probably not happening now

Was a lot of names last year as well, but they hardly managed to get any of the most anticipated, but hopefully this year will be better..

Why would they play two festivals in Belgium??

For money, I would assume. They would not be a headliner at RW, though. Sub-headliner, or even sub-sub, depending on the night. Live /s Live seems to have taken down the page, though, so who knows.

That’s very true, but I always end up remaining hopeful that we will get a brilliant line up with Werchter until we don’t (and even when it isn’t brilliant it still usually ends up being very good)

The National would definitely have been a headliner in Belgium. It’s one of the names that have been mentioned a lot for their wishlist too.

Well I just based myself on the comments under their posts about that wishlist, both on IG and FB. 😇

That's from the ones who can't read and understands that there is an actual form, so they don't count😉 Anyway, you're probably right that they are popular and I would like to see them myself, although I highly doubt they're a headliner themselves, maybe as a sub.

It would be great if they actually had published what the results of the survey were though. After all the discission in here, especially considering older vs younger bands, knowing where "the wind blows" could be interesting..

Yeah, I was imagining them in a co-head structure on the place QOTSA played in 2018 and 2023. Or Nick Cave in 2018. Maybe in the future...

If RW have decided not booking The National, that means that they had all their headline slots covered when The National decided to tour.

I don't think it was an intentional decision by RW. The organizer of Live Is Live is also the Belgian head of FKP Scorpio (who are doing The National's bookings) and supposedly has a great relationship with the band/management.

Not my thing but Bad Bunny just announced a USA tour today that ends may 2024. Just in time for European festivals???

Saw some chat in the other festival threads about him as a potential headliner elsewhere. I'd honestly never heard of him, is he that big outside of Spanish speaking countries?

EDIT: I guess Rosalia is huge in Spain, but was in the Barn at Werchter last year.

Bad Bunny is an enormous artist in some cultures and age groups. He even acted in a fairly major role with Brad Pitt in that "Bullet Train" movie recently, and the Bunny fans were very excited. But his music is completely irrelevant to most Werchter fans, and the money he would command is enormous, such that it would remove one of the biggest rock headliners. No thank you.

My measuring stick for how annoyed I am by a headliner choice is if it prevented an act I really would have paid $100 to see alone... that's what your headliners should be. Not "Oh, okay, I guess I'll see them", but "Wow, I would have paid $100, it's like getting the rest of the festival day for free!"

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
