Flights and Air BnB booked today.

Have they even started to build the new location yet?,

I actually really liked IFEMA for it. I'll miss it.

I loved the walk in with a can, past Madrids training ground etc, and after going a few times, I am comfortable with the train and bus routes, short cuts, connections etc.

New location could be a nightmare.....

Really not clear to me (or even the organisers?) how 'confirmed' the location change is. The place it's supposedly moved to was badged on Google maps as 'Mad Cool Festival' up until recently, but that's gone now and there's nothing on the official site or social media. Seems to be completely up in the air where it'll actually be right now!

Looking forward to it regardless, never been before but did go to their smaller spin off, Andalucia Big Festival, in Malaga last year. Thought that was brilliant - a nice little Spanish holiday combined with a great festival with an excellent line up & top weather. Can't wait to try out its bigger brother.

Im hoping the mooted move to Marconi in Gijon was just a flex to get a better deal on IFEMA or something....

And they fold at the last minute and keep it in its old location.

The grid system of the streets in valdebebas. The park and ride etc. It just worked.

I would go absolutely mad if they changed the location last minute. We have already booked an apartmant close to Villaverde…

No way they would do this right?!

Sorry, didn't mean to cause panic! Andalucia Big did move location a couple of months beforehand so the organisers do seem to have form, but think that was due to some sort of sewage issue at the proposed beach location so there was good reason.

Just had a bit more of a dig around and Madrid's official tourist site still has it down as the Villaverde location so you're probably alright - https://www.esmadrid.com/en/tourist-information/espacio-mad-cool

Also if you buy ticket now, at the ticket options it is still showing Villaverde on the map as the location.

but either way it is crazy that almost 2 months before the festival they still haven’t officially confirmed it.

Super Bock Super Rock moved location at two days' notice last year, due to the potential for forest fires on the coast near Lisbon, imagine that thrill ride.

There's talk that this season's Champions League final may get moved at the 11th hour as it's planned Istanbul location could be considered vulnerable if there is a heavy-going fallout from the upcoming Turkish elections. Maybe it's now the done thing for major international events getting moved at the last minute.

My only concern is the recent pictures of the new location show a barren wasteland of mounds of dirt and weeds etc.

We are 9 weeks or so away...has any soil been turned over?

Maybe it's easily done in 3 or 4 weeks. Im willing to be corrected. It just seems tight.

All they've got to do is roll out a load of greengrocers grass, plenty of time yet.

Man, I’m getting nervous. Still noninfo about the location… I really think it is possible that they will do a last minute switch.

Brw, I messefed them twice in the last week if they can at least confirm the location. They are not answering…

I have had a vibe all along.....I really don't understand why they are moving it to the new location over IFEMA.

It doesn't look well connected.

I think the move is still on. Harry Styles has a show there a few days after and there's a reggaeton festival happening there in July too. I'd be surprised if the move doesn't go as planned, I think it's probably a combination of last minute organisation and Mad Cool's truly awful PR communication. I think we'll find out in the next two or three weeks max.

Don't quote me on it, but if I remember correctly there were reports about them basically being kicked out of IFEMA rather than them wanting to move. Some construction planned for that IFEMA area that got then delayed due to the pandemic.

Anyway, this is peak Mad Cool we all know and love.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah, I reckon that's a reasonable shout. Certainly in the next few weeks

What concerns me is that it was said that this will be a sort of “music village”, something that will be there all year round. That sounds like far more of an infrastructure than a simple festival. Especially in a brand new location.

For about a month I’ve been asking them in DM if the event will be held in Villaverde. This was there response a month later… I think there are serious issues with the location and they still don’t know if they can manage the festival there…A67879B2-FD1C-48C6-8CDF-A713984B193D.thumb.jpeg.9d3bc63995dcd754c66b032347a3c3db.jpeg

I find it all a bit bonkers.....I mean surely they signed a lease on the place or bought the plot outright.

I am getting a serious vibe of them strong arming IFEMA into renewing or giving them a better deal.

Its striking that the new location hasn't been on any of the official comms, tickets, flyers, emails.

The have been hedging their bets and non committal all along.

It’s actually on the ticket, at least on mine. But it’s alarming that they refuse to even say yes, it will be there…

    • My party again had an outstanding 4 days in Barca. We made the right call to leave the festival site early at about 10.30 on Thursday to get ourselves some excellent steaks in the city. I am with everyone that the organization should have been clearer about what is going on and also if you would like to get rid of some attendees open more exits, they sent us from gate to gate until we finally were able to get out. Biggest 'disappointment' was the beer price, a YoY increase from 5 to 6 is absolutely nuts!!! (i am living in Switzerland so me making this comment says something 🙂)   Top 10:   1. Men I Trust 2. Role Model (could have been first as well, what a great artist and great songs) 3. The XX 4. The cure (the last 90 minutes) 5. Gorillaz 6. MBV 7. Ninajirachi (another big miss of the organization, clearly on the wrong podium and wonder if Olivia's surprise set had something to do with that and they had to reschuffle late the Occident, Cupra and Port schedules) 8. NewDad 9. Big Thief 10. Annastashia      We did 3 years Barca now and for next year looking at the Porto or Bilbao festivals as an option.
    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
    • No complaints about the sound. We were like 2nd set of steps facing stage right in like the middle row.
    • On the whole then, yay or nay...I've had a look on festivals united and there's people who seem converted by Rock Im Park, I can imagine it might be different if it was a washout as RaR is tarmac.   The hotel side would be more to convince the non campers if it's an option. On my first visit to rock am ring we were shuttled into the area where you could stick the car next to the tent which was fantastic as it meant zero lugging of camping gear.
