Unfortunately a completely uninformed view according to many economists, but Trump screaming that he can fix the economy unfortunately overshadowed that. Who knows, maybe he will fix things, but everything he’s proposing says that won’t be the case.

Different economists will say different things and people will pick and choose. The economy isn’t great at present and it’s normal for voters to switch when that’s the case.

It bodes for a curious question as to what happens in the likely scenario what he does isn't the remedy to economic dysfunction. If that happens and the issues fester for a good chunk of this upcoming term, then what?

Everyone knows the reason why Harris lost...after she lost.

Same as it ever was. The left blame the centre, the centre blame the left, those around Biden & Harris blame the other, some are blaming the party losing touch with this demographic, that demographic, blahblablah.

When the scale of what happened is what it was, I don't think one reason is enough to cut it. There were just too many problems.

and I'm Chris Rock obvs

😂 Can’t argue with that. My problem is that I try to think like a reasonable person and see the good in people, when actually I need to realise that everybody has brain rot now and think voting for a guy because he’s funny and orange is a good thing. Will adjust accordingly come the next election.

To be fair it was a lot worse than I thought it would be...I genuinely thought it would be close but that Harris might actually pull it off after that Selzer poll and what some commentators were saying.

Think I downplayed this just a couple of days ago, but one big problem the Dems have that seems to have swung the pendulum massively over the last few years is that the right have currently dominated the male podcast and influencer-sphere, with the likes of Rogan, Tate, Shapiro, Carlson etc all having huge viewership, and the left have got pretty much nothing on nearly the same scale to counter it, because a bunch of  guys telling guys that they’re awesome and superior and basically everything they want to hear is far more appealing than some guy telling them times are tough and a slice of reality. Whatever progress was made to move millennials to the left has been completely obliterated with gen z, and that’s a real issue. So many young guys have just gone full misogynist, racist, and red pilled.

A lot of people seem quite dismissive about Trump voters and I think it’s an issue that people on the left often come across a bit snobby with voters who vote for right wing parties. While the MAGA types will get the most exposure, there will be many who think Trumps a bit of a d*ck, but will make the economy better. That’s a perfectly rationale view, even if I would have voted differently.

It's not like people on the right are full of love, compassion and respect for left wingers.

Gaza issue maybe helped Trump win Michigan?

I think it may have played a part since it's got a huge arab american population but I think their optimism in trump to go against israel is maybe a little misguided...

Yes, I think his health will decline quite rapidly. Only two years to the senate elections. Then the contest is on to be the next candidate. His populism needs a character like his to enthuse people. I'm not sure there is a natural successor.

maybe both sides could campaign on issues? and by that I mean those that impact everyone, crazy idea over there I know

yeah, especially when Trump withdraws funds from UNRWA again and then tells Netanyahu do what you need to do to finish the job just hurry up and then I won't object to you annexing West Bank.
