Pukkelpop 2020

I have a theory that Rock En Seine have booked RATM on pretty much a standalone gig on the Tuesday providing that there are no other festivals announced in the vicinity (Netherlands, Belgium etc) until it has sold out or they give it the say so. Despite the size, The RES date will probably be the biggest paying they have due to the lack of other bands, and they'll be the only festival date doing the golden circle etc so RES may have a bit of leeway in saying what goes.

There's also another UK date planned confirmed by Geoff Barrow on twitter (c/o the Glasto board, rumoured to be Glasgow). Being booked by R&L prevents this date from being booked also.

My prediction is the 3 lines on the poster will be filled with Pukkelpop and Lowlands on the Sat/Sun and then Glasgow on the Tuesday or Wednesday then onto the dates given last night.

Believe.

Slipknot announced for Cabaret Vert, a French festival with a similar line-up to PKP but arguably smaller.

I am a Slipknot fanboy since 15 so make me dream, Chokri.

Interesting.

Could be nothing but a poster on festileaks who knew one of the security guys for the Shelter stage said that they would be looking for a lot more security staff this year. Slipknot could be the reason.

They play Cabaret Vert on the Thursday and the UK on the Saturday so likely for the Friday if it happens.

Slipknot & Rage? could be in for a rowdy one!

Cabaret Vert is really close to Belgium, so playing on Pukkelpop on Friday couldn't be a problem.

Booking Ratm and Slipknot would be to expensive, I think it won't happen.

Taken out last years artists and those ruled out.

Decent line-up, without anything groundbreaking. Sasha is an interesting booking though.

First summer festival for Dua Lipa, nailed on now in my eyes for one of the top spots.

Quite a few names there I'd like and expect us to have. Would love to see Sasha at PKP but really don't see where he'd fit? Wouldn't be a big enough draw now for the Boiler (unless it was with Digweed) and he's too big/expensive for the Booth. A few years back he could easily have closed the Castello but they've moved away from DJs like him in there. Like Carl Cox, I'm beginning to fear that's another name I'll sadly never tick off my, 'seen at PKP' list.

Calvin Harris has got to be a major contender now for a Main finish one night. Most obvious (but maybe too obvious?) option would be with Dua Lipa, alongside someone like Bon Iver/Vampire Weekend/Foals. I'd definitely take 3 nights like that over someone 'big' like Eminem but can see the appeal of a marquee booking of his calibre. Not a huge fan of Slipknot but would be great for the festival if they get them as they're popular enough to draw loads of people in while still being credible and different to what we usually have.

First names for La Route Du Rock (19-22 August) 10am UK time tomorrow. Might throw up a couple of new names. Shared Tame, Hot Chip, IDLES and a few others last year.

Can't be too far behind for us now, think PKP is the last August fest to announce anything.

It's not taking that long anymore. But the sales of Rock Werchter isn't the best this year, so they had to wait a little bit.

So there must be at least one “important” band shared by both festivals.

Looking Pixies August european tour, it’s almost obvious that there is a concert to be announced on August 22nd between a French date (August 20th) and their Amsterdam gigs (August 24th and 25th)...

It's not about sharing acts. It's about a lot of Belgians saying they will do either RW or Pukkelpop, as doing both is quite pricey. So they want to avoid people taking a "wait and see" attitude.

And how does Pukkelpop avoid that “wait and see attitude” delaying their announcement?

    • Spring (or early) next year now.   Says to me that the album is/was delayed. I've done some digging but not had anything beyond that.
    • Same’s happened at MSG recently with Rush and Phish alternating nights. I guess each band has its own unique production so their riggers will be kept busy
    • The rumour was uk arena tour late this year.  Same as Charli xcx cant be announced until Reading headline is done.
    • Latest from the sun at least is that harry is still headlining but Olivia has turned down a spot next year to work on new music and hope for 2028.   So they can't have Fender, Fontaines, Harry, Olivia and Madonna.
    • I mean I don't think EC and FFDP are borderline sub, they wouldn't be any lower now.   2025 is about as strong as Bloodstock gets yet this year only one headline would sub and the others would play 3rd down or lower.    Machine Head wouldn't sub at Download regardless of rarity, they don't sell enough tickets and I'm not sure Gojira would sub either. Their last UK tour was a mix of smaller arenas and academy dates. Ally Pally being the only London date, not even Wembley Arena.
