Camping In Pennard Hill?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this forum but I've been flicking through posts for a while now and decided to join in as you all seem awesome! This year will be my 2ND Glasto and I cannot wait. Last year we camped in Pennard hill and had a blast, have any of you guys got the same idea? See you there :D

I was at the very bottom of pennards last year but only because friends arrived on site Tuesday night and queued, then put up our tents early Wednesday. I didn't arrive on site until 5pm ish.

This year I'm not so lucky with early arrivers & we are all still awaiting our coach times, which will make a massive difference to camping plans. If we aren't arriving until the afternoon again we'll probably camp somewhere nearer the old JP area

I really enjoyed camping around that area, everyone was so chilled! I did actually queue with some friends Tuesday evening and ended up half pissed while doing so haha! Hope you have a safe (and quick) journey!

Ah really? where do you camp? For me and my friends we felt close to a lot of the smaller stages and nightlife! Thank you Sir, pleasure to be here :)

Right over the other side, on Hawkwell, pretty much looking down on the Pyramid. Its pretty chilled and easy to get to places. Can be a bit crowded though.

Yeah the cider in the queue seems like such a good idea until you're carrying your shit across site in the heat / rain depending on the year

I see! I imagine that area to be another great place to camp at! I can't see myself spending a great deal of time at the Pyramid Stage this year, who knows.. I'm down for whatever haha!

I've had some great times in pennards but now I arrive late in the day on wednesday, and there is quite a group of us, so I can forget about camping there anymore. I'm too old anyway!

But the best spot of all is row mead.....good luck getting in there unless you know people on the inside though!

I might take a punt this year and camp somewhere near the JP tent, in the hope that they do something nice to that corner.

I always opt for Oxlyers as it's central (good access to every area) and still has the party vibe you need.

Same for me, though I must admit I've never camped anywhere else so can't really compare it to anything else. I remember reading a thread a month or so back where people weren't exactly fans of Oxlyers. Personally I've loved it for the same reasons as you.

what is pennards actually like? never camped there but by reputation it sounds like absolute hell if you ever want to just chillout for a bit as it sounds like party central 24/7 true or?

Camped there last year. It's not the place to be if you want somewhere where you can get a decent few hours kip. A lot of noise from Arcadia. However it is quite peaceful around 8am. All depends what you're after.

Camped there for first time last year.vwas slightly worried  after reading comments on here about it been noisy and party central. Didn't have any problems, perfectly located for the park green fields, stone circle and lost horizons. Got a big spot early weds morning was pretty much full by the end of the day.

Tempted to go back again for above reasons.

We camped in Pennards in 2010 and 2011 and to be honest I though it was a great place to camp. I found, because It is pretty close to the late night areas it was generally fairly quiet until the early hours when most people were returning, and apart from the odd party tent people generally passed out when they got back. We got fairly decent sleep over the 5 days. The only reason I never camped there in 2013, (my last time on the farm) was because it really was a bit of a nightmare trying to find a spot in 2011 and we only had one tent so I imagine a group of friends would find it almost impossible if they turned up much after 11am.

Oh yes, forgot Arcadia was close by now. Maybe not the place to camp if you're wanting to sleep before 3am then...

We always camp high on Pennards hill - have been doing so for all my eight Glastonbury's and hope to bag space for three tents this year. Love the view and being so central to places I like to hang out. 2005 we toddled up at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and had plenty of room to choose for five or six tents - but the Park didn't exist then, or the fenced off area at the bottom for I don't know who... now the Tuesday night queueathon seems essential for a good spot for the group. Feel safer from potential flood mud, too. Although having said that, in 2005 a flash flood caused a small river high across it and took out a number of tents, and we had to wade through to get down the hill. If you're worried about sleep, and it can be noisy from the Park, etc rather than the happy campers, use ear plugs ;)

I actually don;t mind where i camp.

last few years have been Baileys, and South Park. they have just been space there when we have arrived,

but i do like to camp next to the path. we maybe the only ones that like this. You get to talk to loads of Randoms and get people joining you at your camp fire.

Really?? I absolutely avoid camping next to a path at all costs - risk of people falling on your tent, rivers of mud running through your tent and loads of noise. Pennard Hill for us again, away from the path. See you there! :)

we tend to have the camp fire near the path and then the tents in a circle, so no tent backs on to the path.

you would be amazed at the amount of fun you can have watching the walking wounded at 4 am

Pennards for me too. There's usually 12-15 of us, we all love it because it is noisy, crowded, friendly, there's something going on, it's central, it's hectic, it's chilled, it's just nice. It's a bit of everything all rolled into one!

If we camped anywhere else I'd just get lost anyway.

You do, however, have to queue for flipping ages and be prepared to have someone put a tent up right outside your door on the Wednesday night if there's space!!

Ha! :) I guess I'm probably one of the walking wounded! If you're in Pennard Hill I'll look out for your camp fire. We'll have a large gazebo with fairy lights all around it, so you can't miss us!
