i think we will just have to agree to disagree annax :)

irrespective of what reasons i put forward for my wanting to leave the eu, you are not going to accept them...and that is of course fine.

the economic argument is not my primary concern, although i don't think we get good value from being in the eu at all.

i fundamentally disagree that we should discriminate against citizens from the rest of the world when selecting who can / should be able to come here.

Yes.  We have Medcins Sans Frontiers (Doctors without Borders) and we should have people without borders too.

I too am a little nervous about just posting off my application and then crossing my fingers and hoping a voting card pops through my letterbox in early June. Admittedly it is generally in the Guardian that it gets mentioned, but it does feel like the 200,000 of us on Worthy Farm could actually tip the balance!

As for my vote - in all the way. I'm very disappointed about our opt-out from 'ever-closer union' though. The EU is a step on the road to a proper world government, and I would like the UK to help the process along. However if having that opt-out is what it takes to get some people to vote Remain then so be it.

and yet it's inconceivable that the deal we'd get from the outside would be as good. Think about it: if it was as good, the EU serves no purpose to its members.

So its members will ensure the deal we get is worse, and that will be bad for us economically. Is your own job at risk?

And here's betting that how you really expect that to work is by adding discrimination to EU people rather than lessening discrimination to those from elsewhere. After all, if it wasn't that, you'd be asking for open borders for those others which doesn't require us to leave the EU.

And for those Europeans already here that's going to mean a mass of deportations because of new rules that affect them, many who will have been here for many years.

Does any of that sound like a better world to me? Nope.

I just hope enough remain-ers show up to the polls. I strongly believe the majority of people want to remain but you know the leave side will be well mobilised and will turn up to the polls. I just hope enough people can be bothered to get out there to vote remain to quash them.

I think there's a difference between what the majority of people want and what the majority of people who actually vote want. Can see many half-arsed remainers leaving it to everyone else to do it for them.....

please don't be one of those who didn't have their say.

actually - my job is potentially at risk if we leave. as i said, that is not my primary concern.

it's rather arrogant of you to assume that you know "how i really expect it to work" or "what i would / (should) be asking for". we could just as easily have open borders with the world - including european countries - without remaining a member of such a corrupt, undemocratic, wasteful organisation.

i don't agree (or support the idea) that a remain vote will automatically result in mass deportations of people who have been settled here for years - that is simply not going to happen IMO.

I can see no evidence that the EU is any of these things to a significantly greater extent than any other political institution. In some ways it is probably less so.

impossible to prove 100% either way - a matter of opinion really.

i know many people attending glasto this year who intend to vote leave, they are just less likely to be vocal about it as it is an assumed minority view on site. all but one person in my team at work (approx. 25 of us) also plan to vote leave - people from across the left / right wing spectrum, from all different backgrounds / nationalities / walks of life etc.

Got confirmation of my application for a postal vote last Friday.

My vote is IN. Sick of hearing the Brexiters say "Europe needs to trade with us, more than we need to trade with them". They are living in cloud cuckoo land. Their arrogance is simply breathtaking. It will be like going through a messy divorce (which f*cks up the kids along the way) but still expecting to stay "friends with benefits". Not going to happen peeps. Europe is not perfect by any means, but it's waaaayyyyyy better than the alternative.

Just looking at who has aligned with the 'Out' campaign makes my blood run cold:  Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Ian Duncan Smith, Chris Grayling, John Redwood....and the UKIPers.

This whole thing is not really about Europe, it's about who leads the Tories when Cameron goes.

I fear that if we vote out, the UK will be finished. Scotland won't hang around, neither will Wales. England will have no viable economic option but to become a satellite state of the People's Republic of China (which is already happening behind the scenes - why are former MP's taking up 'advisory' positions in Chinese companies....?).

Am I the only one that thinks the phrase Brexit is really annoying? It's not a referendum on Britain leaving or staying in the EU, it's the UK!

(Phillyfaddle this wasn't directed at you btw, just generally speaking :))

You're the one making the claim, therefore the onus is on you to supply the evidence. Otherwise you should withdraw the claim.

i disagree with that logic (or lack of) entirely. It's a claim either way - I claim the eu is those things, you claim it isn't.

anyway, i'm not going to get into a petty argument with you over it. like i said in an earlier post - people are entitled to hold different opinions.

Burden of proof is a fundamental philosophical principle that underpins critical thinking. I think you are in a minority if you don't agree with its application.

I can claim the moon is made of cheese, but without evidence I should expect my claim to be ridiculed.

i don't have to 'prove' my opinions - we are not talking about e.g. somebody being on trial here.

if you claim the moon is not made of cheese, without providing evidence you should also expect your claim to be ridiculed.

from friends who work in government and other sources i am strongly of the opinion that the eu exhibits the negative characteristics i mentioned above - that is all. i also believe this is a view held by many - not just a minuscule minority.

Ring your local council Electoral Registration Department and check.

Definitely worth checking. I sent off my form the day after the referendum was announced and checked this week to be told I wasn't registered as a postal voter. Told my other half, based in another city, to check too and they hadn't been registered either!! So wasn't an isolated case. Terrible system.

Check here for details on who to contact  - http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/register-to-vote

If you're happy with being on the 'moon is made of cheese' side I'm quite happy to leave it there and let others decide on the respective levels of ridicule :D

already registered for a postal vote some time ago.

My other half on the other hand refuses - she says her vote won't make a difference and she can't be arsed registering online. Same as her dad. I say fuck em and burn em, if they don't care about having a say in the biggest referendum of our lifetimes!

    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
