Pukkelpop 2016

I think we all understand this is a business they're running and the main aim is of course to sell all the tickets as quickly as possible.

Whatever it's cost to book her, they won't lose money so if this means they can bulk up the rest of the bill with the names we've been banding around then it's all good in my book. I actually think there's now a realistic chance they'll try and over-compensate the rest of the line up with credible indie/rock/dance acts to balance out the fact they've booked Rihanna. It would appease the older crowd, while at the same time allowing them to stick to their principles as an alternative music festival. Potential win-win situation really when you consider that Thursday tickets are gonna fly out the door as the youngsters love her.

Finally took the time to make an account. Been reading here for a long time, and this forum seems about as active as it get's regarding the discussion of Pukkelpop. I live in one of the streets next to the site and have been a volunteer there for soms years too, so really, the developments become kind of part of your life, even if that might sound weird.

So first thing: In the RW topic I read that Dire Straits are playing in France at the end of August. Would be a fantastic booking, but is it possible?

Something else, not really line up related but the farm next to the camping site caught fire on sunday. Don't think it will have any implications but still. http://www.tvl.be/nieuws/zware-brand-bij-pukkelpopboer-in-hasselt-25054

It's without Mark Knopfler, sorry to disappoint

Welcome to the forum TheKiewitGuy, nice to have someone who lives right next door to the site involved! I guess the festival does have a big impact on your life, particularly in the summer months leading up to the actual weekend. We often get taxi's to the site and they somethimes go round all the back streets to avoid the traffic so I've seen how they shut down all the roads and have volunteers sitting at the end of each one to control who goes in and out. None of us really see the set up beforehand or cleaning up afterwards so there's obviously all that disruption for the locals to contend with each year.

Can't see Dire Straits at PKP either tbh, more likely to be at Lokerse if they turn up anywhere. Speaking of which, they've announced Faithless and Milk Inc for a couple of the days. Wouldn't have minded Faithless as they always put on a good show but hopeful they will be plenty of other quality dance acts to keep me entertained.

Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz headlining Tomorrowland. Can probably rule them out.

It's a b2b thing they're doing (only the 3rd or so time it's happened) so I'm hopeful it won't rule Prydz out completely. He's at SW4 the week after PKP so, with his fear of flying, I imagine he's going to stay in Europe for pretty much the whole of August. He unveiled his latest stage show, Epic 4.0, last week in the US and it looks amazing. It's like a pumped up, steroid fuelled version of Etienne de Creasy's cube that's also done a bit too much acid.

Main stage closer then? Boiler room isn't the right size for it and the Dance Hall might be too small? unless they do a 2014 and stick 2/3 big dance acts on at the same time on the main/DH and Marquee.

I don't think he'll play tbh but if he does it will definitely be either Dance Hall or Boiler. Boiler is actually the bigger of the two stages (what with all the outside bit) but there's no scope for any individual production. There's nothing to suggest he's touring the new stage set up though as there's no mention on any of the posters (SW4 or Creamfields).

Plenty on there that'll make up a large proportion of the dance line up at PKP you'd imagine. The RAM tent on the Friday is probably a wet dream for Semprini

That tent does look good but I'd be happy to settle for just Andy C and Full Cycle! Interesting that they don't have any live acts, although the Friday Main Stage is still to be announced. Some absolute dross on a number of the stages though, particularly the North and South ones.

Yeah, they've really gone down the DJ route in recent years. I saw Kelis (Hello Manchester!!), LCD, the Chems, Scissor Sisters, Faithless, Basement Jaxx and even the Zutons there between 2004-08.

Good, if horribly messy times.

It's a rubbish lineup this time I think, and they probably haven't got anything majorly big for Fridays North stage given it's not announced yet. It's not really a full Friday either, only 5 stages minus Hospitality with Sat/Sun having 9/10. They'll go an pull The Prodigy or Pendulum out now and prove me wrong lol.....I doubt it though.

Goose just dropped a new single and hinted at festival performances. Could see them closing Main Stage or headline the Marquee.

Chase & Status also dropped a new single, possible Main Stage closer since it's a 2-yearly tradition.

Going to have to pull you up on that.

It's Chase and Fucking Status.

Chemical brothers, Massive Attack, Foals, M83, Bloc Party, Oscar and the Wolf all playing Zurich Openair the week after Pukkelpop.

There's a very good chance we'll get all of them.

Looking very hopeful for the Chemical Brothers. If that name alone is on the bill then I'm there. I can see them closing the Rihanna day.

OATW / Rihanna / Chems

NGHFB / Massive Attack / LCD

Foals / Muse / Chase and Fucking Status.

Looks good to me.

Foals is definitely not subbing. Played a 4.000 people venue in Brussels on Tuesday. They had to pull up a curtain making the room smaller to hide that they barely sold half of those tickets. Should consider theirselves lucky if they get to be up high in the Marquee/late afternoon Main Stage.

If they play at all, since Pukkelpop would mean 4 days in a row, while they have more breathing space for a Werchter date.

Swap them for some shite emo metal band then. my line up is very light on crap. Sum 41 or similar.

Carl Cox playing a retrospective classic house set at Bestival. Not going to happen but I can dream

what about the killers? would they not have a chance of headlining?

Could well do. Probably about the same chance as Kings of Leon. Depends on the direction they're looking to take with the festival and it's budget this year.

Could always get a name out of nowhere too.
