Security dancing Lionel...

Remember when some plummy performing arts student piped up on here a few years ago that she'd like to break a world record for the world's biggest flashmob up the Park hill and wanted volunteers, then Russy took her down in spectacular fashion?

Yeah, Russy doesn't like people making their own entertainment at the festival... ;)

You misunderstand I never suggested they were Stuart. Stuart are no longer involved with the festival at all. I am aware it was choreographed my Twitter was full of it. I jus thought it a nice representation of security compared with the old days.

Ah - didnt realise that. Who does stage security now?

Aside from the fact they weren't actually security staff, to me it's like when certain football clubs play music after a goal is scored. It's just not needed. I just hate the fake spontaneity of it.

When I got home after 2014, the first thing my mum said was "ooh dolly was good, even the security staff started dancing" as if they were caught up in the moment and started having a boogie.

Appreciate I probably come across as Major Buzzkill, but choreographed, organised 'fun' is just a bit naff to me. Have them on stage if you're going to do an organised routine not try and make it come across as if the security team have suddenly abandoned their duties and busted out some moves cos the music's really got to them. To be honest, if I was Lionel or Dolly I'd have found it a bit patronising.

Glastonbury should be about spontaneity. Still at least fucking buzzfeed was all over it like a tramp on chips

Think it is Specialised Security. Scottish firm. The security has had a massive overhaul in the last three years. Stuart were forever banished. They were removed from the stages a good few years ago and moved to the fence line and have no gone forever.

Because it was organised by the theatre and circus people and using volunteers and stewarding staff. They did a practice in Glebeland on the Thurs night.

I saw a few flash mob demonstrations and practising going on. I assumed that security had just learnt it. Certainly at Dolly Parton the flashmob was genuine stage security shame if it wasn't this year. Still think it was fun though. Even if I did sleep through it.

Obviously not :(

People seem to like them being moody uninvolved and not joining in. Sad really :(

I personally loved seeing it ( on the TV when I got back) it was great seeing them joining in.

To be fair, the bit where security didn't join in with Crowded House a few years back was the best bit of their set by quite some distance.

There's your why - I've been there before when a few security have ended up dragged into the act, has always been fun always gets a lot of attention

The whole dolly/lionel flash mob things are a bit weird. I think it's not so much that I object to any preorganised fun but that it kinda disappointed me to see the festival jumping on a social media trend. Seemed about as fitting as them organising a Harlem Shake at the Pyramid if you get my drift

it was the security (specialised), they learned the dance for Dolly last yr and the Lionel one this year.  They weren't T&C or anyone else.  Specialised actually do a fab job for the main part at the stages and why shouldn't they have a bit of fun and show their human side for one song?

Very pleased to read this confirms what I thought but hadn't got the energy to chase up.

It felt a bit off, given the crowd control/crushing around the pyramid. To see the people who are paid to look after the punters dancing seemed a bit odd. Overly harsh yeah probably. 99% of the time the security seems great, apart from the one run in I had during Fleet Foxes of all people :D

At a festival promoting charities who are fighting starvation in the world, no not really.

Doesn't work that way. Have you felt a proper supermarket ready tomato? They're bloody solid and would hurt lots

The tomatoes used, at least for sure in the original spanish event, are overripe and damaged/split ones already, it's all the waste tomatoes not ones you'd go on to cook with

I hope, and trust, the same is true here - anyone who's been should be able to confirm if they were solid or squishy
