Are there busses that leave Wednesday morning (from London) that would get to Glaston at a reasonable time to find a good spot?

Regarding the coaches, I got there at about 5:30 Wednesday last year and a good few coaches had already arrived by then. It still might have been a "tiny percentage" of coaches, but it was still a sizeable amount of people.

I arrived about 15 minutes earlier, and I'd say coaches start arriving from about 5am onwards, and from 6am they start coming in thick and fast. Gate A's throughput was pretty impressive, but it's going to be longer than a 20 minute wait it you arrive after about 7am, I reckon.

I think all of that Worthy View camping reduced some of the pressure in the normal camping fields last year- there was a lot more space in my usual field of choice in 2014 for a lot longer, where as in 2013 it was rammed pretty early.

No one can really predict anything though when it comes to gate queues and camping spaces as it'd different every year. I suppose it all comes down to your anxiety levels regarding what you decide to do.

There was a pinch point 2011 ( I think) where 2 queues met, was horrendous but 2013 think they stopped that, there seemed to be only 1 Q. Not sure 2014, headed for gate B but got directed to car park nearer C. Anyway you look at it, gate B filters down to almost single file at one point so will slow down the Q quite considerably.

I will get there on wednesday at 5am (taking the 2am bus from london), bf is driving from wales on tuesday night. He will have 3 friends with him and I will have the same with me, We're aiming for a spot on Pennards to set 4 tents.

The big question is: who is more likely to get in first and then take the tents?

If he parks on gate A is there any chance we can meet on the queue? would make the logistic easier.

Car park D is the closer one to Pennards as it seems? it gets too busy there?

Simple - people on the bus bring the ground sheets and car takes the tents - then report back here who got there first (and hope it doesn't rain).

In 2013, we came by car at around 5.30 and managed to get into a decent parking area (one of the thirties I guess looking at the map). We were in the site before 8am.

We tried the same in 2014 but they'd closed the route off that allowed us to get into the same parking area. We ended up just queueing in the Gate D melee.

From Gate D queues, you can always walk towards Gate A and queue there. I'm not sure whether that is worth it or not.

i have stayed in the Campervan field at C for the last few years, getting there Tuesday lunchtime on the last couple. It appears to me that they keep people in the car parks until about 7am and then 'march' them through the campervan fields and have them in a snaking queue on the Hill of Death. Opening the gates at 8am. I do not believe you can get from the car parks to the campervan fields during the night.. Last year a young couple came in and pitched their tent with (i assume) parents on Tuesday afternoon, then upped sticks about 6:30 and got in the front of the queue on hill of death..

You can definitely get from the car parks (Purple 1,2,3 anyway) during the afternoon and early evening Tuesday, and if you know someone in camperfields it is easy just to pitch a tent next to your friends for the Tuesday night.

Trying to meet in the queue is going to be a ballache you'd regret, I think.

Having always previously done Gate D and done Gate A last year I would go for A every time. Gate D has that godawful bottleneck, it's never been easy. We turned up at Gate A about 7am last year and it was a relative doddle.

my take on this is turn up at riflemans pub around 8pm tues, stay till closing walk to site slightly drunk, fall in ditch on way and get laughed at by many hundreds turning up..... eventually make it to site around 4am fall asleep and enter at some point weds afternoon ......................on second thoughts dont do this it nearly messed my festival up.

FYI The Riflemans was closed when I went past 2 weeks ago. Looks like it's either undergoing a major refurb or it's been sold to a developer. But you WALKED to site from there with all your stuff?!! Are you in the SAS, it's miles......??!

For the last two years we've arrived mid-afternoon which has been great for just walking straight in but the downside is we've ended up miles away from Gate D in Pink 54 in 2013 and Pink 53 2014.

The earliest we are likely to get there is around 9am on the Wed, and I'm worried that both Yellow and Orange will be full by then.

They probably will. We usually get there at around 8:30am and always end up in either 51 or 52. One day I'd like to be on the right side of the road.

8pm Tuesday would probably do it, but it's not as simple as arrival time so even that wouldn't be guaranteed.

The problem is that they don't necessarily fill the closest fields first on the West side - at the busiest times it's fairly common for them to fill 2 (occasionally more) fields at once in order to try and keep the public road relatively clear - so hypothetically they could direct 5 cars to turn left into Pink, then the next 5 to turn right into Orange, then the next 5 to carry on the road before turning off into Yellow. Which you end up in is luck of the draw.

Got the coach last year, got to the site at about 3pm, straight through gate A. Luckily our friend took our tent for us but as we were walking through there was still plenty of space left in many campsites.

I know some friends who are going down Tuesday night but were planning on sleeping in the car after a few drinks and heading in when the gates open at 8. Is this just a bad idea? Will there be big queues at this time. I have never been so early before and never experienced queueing to get in, maybe i have always been lucky...

Nah, the whole point is to reduce the stress on the roads coming into the site on the Wednesday. If people kip in their cars it is just as beneficial. I know I'd rather be stood in a queue than sat in a traffic jam.

better off getting another hour of sleep in the car until 9am in that case, as the queue will have reduced quite a lot by then.
