Didn't Kele sack half the band? I think the guitarist is still there, but chances of anything anywhere near as good as Silent Alarm looks way beyond them now.

I hope I'm wrong because they used to be a real force.

Aye. They did a pretty good job of destroying their credibility with 'Intimacy' but the new stuff is really bad

I get excited everytime an email says Friendly Fires are playing somewhere and it turns out just to be poxy DJ set.

Its a weird one!

they said they'd continue but there sound would change drastically to less pop sounding material, but they just seem to have completely disappeared since (apart from one or two collaborations they did with somebody i can't remember that i never listened to)

Catching up on a couple of (fairly) recent rock albums, I entirely agree with this re new Ought:

it's really good! don't think it's quite as good as the first one, but some belter songs on there (Beautiful Blue Sky quickly becoming one of my favourites of the year. can't get it out of my head)

But sadly also this re new FIDLAR:

I actually thought it was more immature. I loved their EPs and liked the first album but they seem to have gone from garage-punk with lyrics about drink and drugs to a kind of emo-punk with lyrics that sound like they're lifted from a teenage girl's twitter account. I only got 3 songs in, thought it was terrible.

How good is the new Chrvches album!

Didn't think it would anywhere near as good as the first and whilst it does fall just short of that it's right up there there live show now will be brilliant so many good tracks.

The new songs really add to them live actually! Just hope they don't get stuck on the other stage in the afternoon next year.

Saw today Metric have a new album out and  its not bad at all! Bit poppy in places but decent enough.

Another Beach House album out next week. I thought Depression Cherry was a bit dull so hopefully this will be better.

wow! felt the same way about Depression Cherry - really didn't do a lot for me. fingers crossed for this one. i love shit like this

Other stage kind of seems inevitable really, though I'd love to see them on the Pyramid.

they definitely have the large crossover appeal for the Pyramid, but yeah, i have no doubt in my mind that it'll be second or third down on Other (originally thought second, but third seems a bit more realistic now)

I agree, the new songs sounded great live when I saw them last month but I still probably prefer their debut.

I've only listened to Depression Cherry once, but I thought it sounded a bit 'meh'. They obviously have their sound, but I wanted something a bit different, or a progression.

Fingers crossed for this new record, because Teen Dream and Bloom are great. A bit weird to release another new record so soon. Perhaps they knew DC was a bit weak..?

i'm not sure why they're releasing a new album (probably just had a ton of material left over from the DC sessions that didn't fit in with that album) but i doubt it's because they thought DC was weak - it's not as if it got panned by the critics or anything (if Metacritic is anything to go by, it only did slightly worse)

True. Will have to give it another few listens before I make any real judgment on it. They are very much an 'album' band, so you could be right about these songs not fitting on DC.

been giving it a listen this morning and it's not quite as boring as i initially thought, but towards the end of the record it does all start to blur in to one. the songs just aren't as memorable this time round imo

    • LCD Soundsystem seem perfect for the outdoor circuit. I could definitely see them doing that.
    • Thats a weekly one isn't it? He's been PM for two weeks and its been known longer than that. Labour , greens , lib dem's all seemed to be converging around 16/17% beforehand are now labour are breaking away.   The polls showing labour ahead have the lib dems down at something like 8%. I guessing as Burnham announces more blue labour policies like restarting north sea drilling those two parties will start to claw back a few of the voters they've lost.

    • Stadium gig/s 100% 2027.   As for the offer - dunno what to think. The source is very well placed and, to me, the timing checks out - I'm basing that on the stadium gigs coming after an arena tour... coming after a new record... following a record that propelled them to the next level.   As I keep saying with any info I've shared for Glastonbury next year, though, none of it feels nailed to me.    I assume that they're doing a half decent job of keeping things quiet (still early, I guess). It's all little bits of stuff doing the rounds in the industry. There's none of it that I'd hang my hat on right now. The bits I've shared - I thought they were worth sharing, given the source. Chat about Madonna, the Fontaines snippet, chat about Fender.    A gun to my head right now - Madonna would still be my number one bet. More of a gut feeling, but I feel like the recent doubt may be the festival and/or her people trying to calm the noise a bit after the Graham Norton slip, rather than a u-turn.
    • Have settlers people started receiving their car park passes? I was sure I had bought one, but cant find a receipt for it and nothing through the post yet.
