There's a whole hour and a half of it to chew through, but early indications are that the new Titus Andronicus album is a return to form.

I haven't listened to it for a while but I did like it very much. It didn't feel like an hour and a half. Patrick's voice sounds quite shot in most parts though but I suppose that's natural when you scream your head off for long enough.

Trying to decide where Frank Ocean would play. I suppose it's very dependant on how well the new album does.

I can see him subbing the Other, if his album does well. I'd be happy with him subbing Kendrick on the other :)

omg just listened to the Mbongwana Star - From Kinshasa album, and it would be perfect to see on the West Holts stage next year, maybe about fourth down.

Stunning album isn't it

Did anyone see them at Womad the other week?

Heard Jessica Pratt's album for the first time today and haven't stopped listening. Lovely stuff!

Probably going to see her are Bush Hall too now

aye fantastic album that. Back, Baby is one of my favourite songs of recent times. may be one of my most played on iTunes

can't get enough of Titus Andronicus' album lately. was unsure of it at first but now after a few listens i absolutely love it. at 29 tracks there's obviously some filler/weaker tracks (strangely, for me, the two 9+ minute tracks) but there's so much good stuff on there

Album of the year by some distance imo. Beyond excited to see them in November, might go twice as they mix their setlists up a lot and I've found a way to get back from Oxford.

I'd never even heard of these guys, but really enjoyed that.  Would be perfect on WH for a sunny afternoon.

Will be giving The Maccabees' new album a go tonight. I've heard so many different opinions on it!

Gave it another listen and I'm still a fan.  Sometimes I'm glad I don't hear many opinions on new stuff otherwise it'd probably get in the way of actually figuring it out for myself!

Yeah I'm really digging it. Not AOTY material, not yet, but there's a real return to form there. I think I need to listen again and make a playlist of my favourite 45-60 minutes worth of stuff as it's just such a mammoth task to listen to again and again.

i still maintain it's not as good as The Monitor as there are some weaker tracks whereas The Monitor had none (though as i said, at 29 tracks compared to The Monitor's 10 there was no way that wasn't gonna happen) but if you cut about half an hour off as you say, it'd definitely be up there. still though, have managed to give it a few full listens and there's only one real lull that i notice each time (the mid-section with the two 9 minute tracks) - everything else is pretty damn fantastic

promising a 29/30 track album and having two of said tracks be audio-less is something i don't quite agree with though. call them intermissions or whatever you want, but it just seems like they set out to bite off more than they could chew. was 25 tracks not a ridiculous enough accomplishment?

It's just the pacing that they wanted though. I'd rather they had tracks labelled as intermissions that I could skip than just stuck at the end of a song to forever annoy me. Besides one is seven seconds and I didn't even notice.

I don't really wanna make direct comparisons to The Monitor because there's no real point in continually harping back to their magnum opus but I think this one is back in the area where the first two albums were rather than the previous one.

The two nine minute tracks seemed good and okay. The good one being More Perfect Union. Felt like fan service or something to make a song so similar to it's namesake. I can't even look at a part of the album and say "oh this part lost my attention" because there are really good tracks all about the place. There are some filler tracks though obviously, and I think they realise that by labelling one of the tracks (Filler) too.

been giving Local Business a good few listens lately as well and it holds up a lot better than i remember. i remember being pretty disappointed with it but i'd say it's just as good (if maybe not quite as instantly joyous) as this new one - it just wasn't The Monitor pt II

Really looking forward to the new Ultimate Painting album. Think it's out later this week. Loved the first one.

Good to see some much needed love for these guys. Their sound is great, they totally nailed their first LP as you say.

    • Attended a gig at Piece Hall for the first time on Saturday (Opeth), the music was excellent. Just a couple of points on the organisation & the event itself. - Getting through the gates seemed to take longer than required. I was at the South gate about 30 mins before stated start time and still missed first half of Katatonia. - Coffee stall was serving cold coffee later on. - Lots of the crowd seemed to be more interested in chatting than listening to the music. Doubly annoying when sound levels for Opeth seemed quieter than Paradise Lost, is this usual for the venue due to curfew etc? Luckily there was enough room so I could move close to the front of the crowd and couldn't hear drunken chatter anymore 🙂
    • Tickets will just be sent out via email; going out next Monday 10th August apparently.
    • That's how I'd see it, either or, 3 BST rules her out.
    • Surely the chances of Madonna doing three+ nights at BST and also Glastonbury is pretty low? I know Elton did (2?) nights at BST but it seems like it’s one or the other at this point?   A shame. I think she would be absolutely brilliant - plus, unfortunately, given that she isn’t as able as she was means this could be a now or never situation?
    • All of these were published in July of their respective year. Appreciate the festival is a little later than normal but it must surely be live in the next 48 hours? The first events start in five days! 🤣
