Pukkelpop 2015

I've got three festivals this year and I'm not sure I trust any of the bookers at any of the big festivals this year. Lots of weak lineups or there (V being the worst, they've simply not tried) BUT I do trust Pukkelpop, they always have a misstep on the lineup for me (e.g. Limp Bizkit) but they always have something I never expected (Neil Young, Bjork, The XX). Keep the faith!

What are the other 2 festivals?

That's unfortunate, you'll be missing out on a great festival.

I think the above may have something to contribute to the behaviour of the festival goers. Very unusual to see anyone completely smashed there. Maybe its just a Non-British thing but the lack of spirits definitely contributes to it.

There is street stalls directly outside the venue that may sell a better variety but obviously you can't bring it in with you.

At least its not like festivals like Opener in Poland where you can't drink at all around the stages and tents.

Yup, I've never got the taste for beer at all, I was looking for a fest in Europe to do instead of Werchter that would appeal and it's a nice gap size between but this one's off the radar now.

Yeah Opener doesn't appeal, I did do the whole not drinking at Coachella but I did at least get the option of area's where I could still see bands to drink and it's a little more unique to compromise that a few hours plane ride away.

I don't like getting smashed at a fest, although as many I'm sure I've been there but a cider or something to sip through a band.

I've got Glastonbury and Optimus Alive (now called NOS Alvie) might try and fit in Bingley if the lineup is OK.

Also, I would be surprised if Les Ardentes booked Blur. Looking at their history, they seem to nail the upper mid tier bands, but I can't see a true top tier band playing any of their festivals to day, so I think Blur is a no-no for them.

Am keeping an eye on Bingley too. Good little event and great for the money, compared to other UK festivals. Seen that Larmer Tree festival. 240 quid for a 5 day ticket and a piss poor line up.. Shocking.

Smaller festivals are nearly as much as the major festivals, I can't get my head around that.

I paid £180ish for wilderness festival, from what I gather they don't even have music in the daytime.

Even more I'm paying that just for the one day to see Bjork, they don't do day tickets and don't fancy anything else on the lineup.

Dry the River

Villagers

The Tallest Man on Earth

Blood Red Shoes

Mono

Sleigh Bells

The Antlers

Wil Butler

Lamb

Purity Ring

Tori Amos

Stars

Metric

Many of these have definitely played in the past; Villagers, Blood Red Shoes, Dry the River, Sleigh Bells, the Antlers and the Tallest Man on Earth have played for sure.

As for Purity Ring; it's gonna depend on their schedule I think. They're already touring European venues in the April - May period, including 1 date in Belgium and 2 in Holland. After that they're touring the USA and Canada until the end of June... So yes, technically they could show up again in the Summer, but that would be a very heavy tour year, so I woulnd't be surprised if they don't do Summer festivals this year... :(

Wow, I think that festival is the most middle class thing I may have ever seen.

WOW!, This is up with the guy who was going to cancel Glasto so he could attend a Kasabian gig!

It's not exactly fait to compare different countries though, as mid-sized Belgian festivals are approx. 120-140 euros for 3 or 4 days.

Anyway, the big Les Ardentes announcement is coming earlier, at 8pm this evening. Blur, Bjork and Deadmau5 are the biggest rumours.

Wasn't comparing Belgian festivals, more so UK ones.

For example latitude is half the size reading festival, only £13 less for a ticket.

Could Les Ardentes really take Blur away from both Werchter and Puckelpop? Judging by the bookings, it doesn't look anywhere near as big.

I agree. I just couldn't see them packing the punch to get a really big name such as Blur. I could see them getting Bjork. Major coup for a mid tier festival, infinitely credible yet big enough for the "wow factor". I will await 8pm with baited breath...

I'm expecting 25th March for Puckelpop to be Blur.

The more it is discussed, the more I think it will probably be Blur for Pukklepop. As for the others, probably a huge name DJ/dance act and someone a bit unexpected then a solid under card with someone like Linkin Park and Offspring making up the numbers

It's very hard for me to guess as I don't know any superstar DJ's. Something like

Blur/Tom Jones (he's got to be big in Europe, right? This may be a joke)/Robert Plant & whatever he's doing now

Black Keys/Linkin Park or Offspring/Stromae/Beck

Nero or Modestep or something like that/Jack White/Paloma Faith or Ellie Goulding or one of them lot

all of which is to say I have no idea really

It's Kendrick Lamar... Talking about exaggerating...

Good news for me tbh. Kanye for Pukkelpop then? Can't think of any other rap headliner that's big enough or hasn't already played pp in the last couple of years.

Edit...aside from Drake.

Kanye West just confirmed to be Glasto headliner. I guess that reduces his Pukkelpop chances, since he'll already be in Europe starting from June.

I'm sure scheduling has a big part to play but PKP and Glasto have not shared a headliner in the same season for over 10 years (I haven't looked back further than that so it may well be that they've never had the same headliner). There are seven weeks between the two festivals so it's conceivable Kanye could come back to Europe for a run of shows around August. However, there's a definite elevation of status that accompanies a Glastonbury headline slot, especially the coveted Saturday night, which might mean he limits other appearances this summer. He may perceive, for this year anyway, festivals like PKP to be beneath him. Money talks though so if a few festivals can make it worth his while he may get back on a plane.

It would be an amazing coup if they did get him. I'm not a fan but would go and have a look, unless he clashed with Underworld of course!

    • Never too early to start discussing next year’s headliners right?   I’m not attending this year so thought I’d get the ball rolling as I saw Weezer have a new album out in August I’d expect them to do this or Slam Dunk next year. I mean they’re probably too big for this however I think they’re niche enough that they would maybe do it, it just depends on if the fee is a bit out of range for trees.    It’ll be the 20th anniversary next year so I’d expect some throwbacks and hopefully some big headliners/acts. James has already said he’s made a mad booking that you wouldn’t guess & I think he mentioned that he’s spent something like 80% of this years budget of next years top line already on last weeks 2 promoters 1 pod (Don’t quote me on that).    I reckon they’ll try for and get at least two (not all) of the following - Enter Shikari, AFI, Weezer, Sex Pistols Feat Frank Carter, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls
    • for some reason last night watched series one of Prey on Netflix.   if Legends was written by Timmy Mallet (see above) then Prey seems to have been made by Mr Blobby.   why are all these British crime dramas so sh*t?
    • It'll be all over various Seatfillers based upon previous years at Sandringham
    • The Jayhawks 2026 UK Tour    Sept 15 – Brighton – Corn Exchange  Sept 16 – London – Electric Ballroom Sept 17 – Manchester – Academy 2 Sept 18 – Glasgow – The Garage    For you ‘americana’ lovers. They have a great song book.
    • Weezer just announced a new album & US tour so could add them to the headliner pool. Imagine they’ll do this or trees
