He was hugely enthused by Elton rumours chief. Anyfinks poss.

Hehe. Now, i'm not going to be anywhere near Elton, but it'll make my folks happy, and that'll do for me. There's normally very little i want to see on the Pyramid, really, so they might as well book some acts that my friends and family want

The Dirt is a really good read, regardless of your tates in music. It's a helluva story, and well told. Little throwaway details that leave you breatless at their audacity.

Mark Lewisohn's first volume (of three) of the Beatles: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beatles-All-These-Years-Tune/dp/0316729604

The most thoroughly researched book of their lives & career, and much more than just about the Beatles, it's about the entire birth of popular music and the culture that grew out of the 60s, which turned the whole world upsidey down. A great read, really well written.

There's an even-longer version if you're up for it, which is even-longer-better! Can't wait for volume two (vol one just goes up to the release of their first single).

This is essential reading.

"We live in a pop age gone loco for retro and crazy for commemoration. Band re-formations and reunion tours, expanded reissues of classic albums and outtake-crammed box sets, remakes and sequels, tribute albums and mash-ups . . . But what happens when we run out of past? Are we heading toward a sort of culturalecological catastrophe where the archival stream of pop history has been exhausted?"

Absolutely relevant to so many of the discussions we have on this forum...

    • It's even less funny when in real life too...   Liddle met Rachel Royce and the couple soon became romantically involved.[84] In January 2004 the couple married at a ceremony in Malaysia. They had been living in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, and had two sons together. Six months later, Liddle moved in with Alicia Monckton, a 22-year-old receptionist at The Spectator. It transpired that he had cut short his honeymoon with Royce so that he could be with Monckton. Following their divorce, Liddle and Royce exchanged attacks in the media. Liddle called her a "total slut and slattern"
    • Got our purple outfits sorted.   What's the uptake on the fancy dress day?   Does everyone get involved with that one as well?
    • he was a provocateur
    • He was also arrested for allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend.   Such a charmer.
    • George Borg - now he was a character. Both terrifying and endearing, often in the space of 5 minutes. Entertaining times back then!
