In terms of 'new' headliners the ones that instantly jump out at me would be: Madonna, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Foo Fighters & Kanye West. (Madonna headlining with a one off greatest hits set would be bloody brilliant!)

& in terms of returning headliners, I'd kind of expect Radiohead, The Cure, Kings of Leon, Paul McCartney, Muse, Arctic Monkeys & Bruce Springsteen to all reappear at some point over the next 5-10 years.

On the topic of the actual thread: yes & no. Metallica aren't a poor choice, they stand firmly in the top tier of best selling artists/bands ever. However do I think they were Eavis' first choice? No.

Metallica are a huge band. It's getting to the point where the organisers are looking down the list of biggest acts, filtering out the ones who have already played recently and the ones who aren't interested, then choosing one. Metallica is easily the biggest band at Glasto this year.

As much as I have zero interest in them and I think metallica are a poor choice, I do see how the lack of good acts to book these days makes it tough to get someone of the high calibre we've come to expect.

Am I blown away by the headliners? no.

Am I jealous of any other festivals headliners? absolutely not.

Plus I think that the overall lineup is impressive this year, theres lots on and I don't think many of us are gonna be bored (I mean come on - Blondie are on before i've even had breakfast!).

So do I think the Eavii were desperate? no not really, though as music fans I suspect that they like the rest of us want some new, decent breakthrough acts for the future.

I think there are other rock acts that could headline. Black Sabbath and ACDC would be interesting.

I'm often more excited about bands further down the line up. This year there are lots of bands I want to see and personally I would have been happy for Jack White to have headlined one of the nights, as it is I will miss him as I really want to see the Pixies.

I think one option for the future would be having two smaller headliners on the same night or getting a smaller headliner to do something special - a one off collaboratation for example.
