I work in a pub and those things are so annoying sometimes. Purely because when it's so busy you can't move for people and you see some 'smoke' above someones head, it's really difficult to tell if it's real smoke or from an electronic cigarette when you can't see what they're holding. I know they're better for smokers so I think they're great in that respect, I just have this unreasonable wish that the smoke looked different in some way to real smoke.

I'm basically trying to say that you shouldn't be alarmed if someone does think you're smoking and you get a tap on the shoulder from security wanting to check. But it is perfectly legal to smoke it indoors in a public place so you would not (or at least, should not) be removed from the tent because of it.

The smell alone should be a give away I would have thought, you can smell a legit cigarette a mile away these days when someones smoking in places where they shouldn't be.

Agreed, I've had a couple of instances where stewards have got shirty with me because they thought I was smoking

Anyone with an issue with vaping in tents or anywhere for that matter needs a slap. 1000 times better for the smokers health and those around them than normal cigarettes - everyone's a winner

I'm still a small-time baccy smoker, but mostly now a vaper.

And I disagree. Other people have chosen to not voluntarily inhale toxic substances (nic is a very strong poison, remember!), and with them having successfully got other people's poisons out of their public indoor space lives, why would anyone wish to re-impose it back onto them?

Respect for other people's different choices and a desire to not impose your own choices onto them is always a good idea for life.

I'm a smoker and never tried one of these e-cig things, mainly because I quite enjoy smoking but don't see any problem with them being indoors, it's not actual smoke is it? More like thick vapour?

And what's in the liquid bottles? Obviously some nicotine substitute but what else? And do you guys use them to slowly get yourself off cigs? Or just continue to smoke them as normal?

Apologies for all the questions but I'm intrigued with these things and if you don't ask you don't know eh :)

I like smoking. It's why I'm still smoking.

But I found the transition to ecigs much easier than I thought, my baccy use is about 1/4 of what it was, I feel healthier, and I'm £80 a month better off.

What's not to like? :D

I continued to smoke the occasional fag for the first couple of weeks, then found myself stopping fags without thinking about it (I do still smoke baccy for other things tho, I'm not quite a saint yet :P).

I must admit I don't know much about them - I always thought the 'smoke' was just a sort of water mist type thing!

I LOVE smoking, even though I don't any more. I miss it loads. It never gets easier! :)

I was asked by security in Bread & Roses last year to stop using my eCig or be ejected.

Then again, I was in Solidarity and people were openly smoking fags & joints inside the tent, so it all depends on the individual stewards.

I don't know if there are any hard & fast rules at Glasto.

It's not allowed in the Royal Albert Hall nor the O2 because the security staff say it looks too much like cigarette smoke and they have to go and check and people complain etc etc etc

I'd hardly say everyone's a winner and anyone with an issue 'needs a slap'.

The vapour isn't entirely harmless as evidenced by it twice triggering asthma attacks in my dad from a chap 'lighting up' in a pub next to my him. My dad is currently part of a trial studying triggers of asthma and COPD and the effect's of e-cigs vary from person to person.

Whilst I don't have a problem with them in principle, the sickly sweet smell that some of them emit can be very unpleasant in confined spaces. Plus I'd dispute the healthiness when it's a completely unregulated market until the new legislation comes into effect in 2016. I don't think you can have 100% confidence that you know what's in these things, especially some of the cheaper versions (rather like knock-off aftershave)

Caused issues at Bearded Theory where it was impossible for stewards to tell what was smoke from a fag and what was smoke from an e-gig amongst the crowd. Gave up in the end - I wouldn't be surprised if they did so at Glasto too this year inside tents.

It's not that simple. If you're in a crowded pub, behind the bar, and you see smoke across the other side of the room, you can't necessarily smell it. There is also the problem with people leaving the garden door open and I an often get a whiff of smoke if they do (that's my real hate, people who go out and leave the door wide open to make the place freezing and stink of smoke!).

In the almost 2 years I've worked there, I've only ever had one person walk in with a cigarette. He was really drunk and really wanted a roast dinner, I kept asking him to leave and he kept telling me "But I want to the roast beef!". He didn't understand that he could come back in and have the roast beef if he just finished his cigarette outside first!

Get this:

We're only allowed to smoke e-cigs at work in the designated smoking areas with the other 'real' smokers. WTF?!!!

For no fucking reason whatsoever other than the aesthetics and impression it may give about us to the other companies in our shared building.

Tried using E cigs but the bloody things just run out of power or liquid etc always at the time when you need them most ,Recharging them at Glastonbury and making sure it works for five or so days will be a little difficult I expect .

50 g of Golden Virgin in my back pocket will do .

I tend to disagree. There are two issues here:

1) The impression that it gives to others. Say younger people who don't know the difference and think that the smoking thing is then cool because they have seen you doing it.

2) The remnants that are being given off to others.

Regarding the regulations and your own health, well that's your choice but you can't do things that either directly or indirectly affect others.

With regard to the the remnants of the smoke. Think of it this way, knowing that it's not just vapour, otherwise you'd not be smoking it, would you blow the smoke into a baby's basket? I'm sure every reasonable person would answer "No of course not". Then you must agree that there is a doubt in your mind about the remnants of the e-cigarette and consequently you can understand why others might not want people to vape next to them.

To be clear, I'm all for vaping, I think it's wonderful and regardless of any findings about the health implications, I'm sure they'll be better then real cigs and if it helps people move of them, all the better.

In one particular tent at Glastonbury, a small venue but I won't name it here, no smoking ban is ever enforced. The chap who runs it (top bloke) takes the view that when smoking was still allowed in tents, the 'cannabis is illegal' law was never enforced. Therefore now that smoking tobacco is illegal, why should that law be enforced?

After hours in particular his tent is often a lovely fug of very stoned people.
