The queue getting in this year - is it quicker than previous years?

We parked our car at about 6.30 in the east car parks last year, were directed towards gate B which had a horrendous queue, so decided to make the trek to gate C. Got there to find about 200 people in the queue. Were only waiting for about 30 mins for the gates to open, and were set up camp with a beer in hand by 8.15. Would have been earlier if I wasn't setting up 2 tents for friends arriving later as well.

Had some friends who did the overnighter and were in B queue. They didn;t get through the gates till about 10 or 11, all we remember is seeing them come in through the gates whilst we were walking back out to the car to bring the rest of our stuff

Thought Gate D was fine last year compared to last year, yes there was about 30/40 minute queue once the gates opened but it was pretty smoother compared to previous years. Didn't seem to be many pushing in either.

That was getting in the queue about half 5 having spent a couple of misrable cold hours in the car park :P I found the whole situation a bit weird, its rather dark and cold in those car park fields, most of the portaloos were already fucked which was fun after arriving.

Saying that I'd consider doing it again mind :P (Coach this year though!)

Fucking terrible in east carpark. Tales of panicers starting a queue at midnight on tuesday which caused more panic which meant we begrudingly got up at 4AM to join a queue snaking around the carpark with thousands of people in it already (and quite a few pushing in at the bottom - classy).

Yet another example of glastogoers making it hard work for everyone. The festival should stop this by not opening the carparks on tuesday.

Gate B was a nightmare when we arrived about 4am, queue running the whole length of the 2/3 car parks before it...luckily I went for a wander and got speaking to some really friendly security guys. shared a drink with them and they told me C was empty and we could use the through road to reach it, joined that queue about 5.30 and there was only 30 folk in front! Was in and set up by 9am, best Glasto queue experience as a punter!

I keep hearing horror stories about Gate B. I've only ever been through it once, and that was years ago. Is there a reason it seems to fare worse than others?

Arrived at Gate A at about 10 walked straight in set up in oxylers (at a squeeze) by 11 very pleasant for my first glasto experience

Family friends arrived at 5 only got in 2 hours before us, I dont know what gate they were in but sounded hellish

By all accounts I've read on here and from my own experience B was by far the worst last year. A lot of the people pushing in were those that had arrived early, woke up and saw the long queue thinking they had a right to push in down the bottom at the pinch point. They then filled up a new bit of parking and those people also started joining the q nearer the front as opposed to a massive walk back up the hill to the end of the snake like Q. Can't blame them I suppose but needs to be a little bit better organised. I think the organisers were aware, my mate heard about the q's over his radio so maybe it'll be different this year.

Many people mentioning that gate C was empty where as gate B was pretty crowded. Makes me wonder if they tried directing people to different gates more they could spread the load. Ive only been twice and both times we ended up in purple 2 according to last years map. We do come from the north side but i may try and look at the map when it comes out and head for a car park near gate C.

Ahhh thats interesting then. Handbrake was on in purple2 at 5 to twelve i can remember that. We pottered around and sat near the car for awhile (with no intention of sleeping). I went for a walk down about 1ish and saw there was a small que, we knew it was suppose to be dry so joined it. I dont mind ques as long as there orderly. 2013 was fine but 2011 annoyed me a bit.

All these people saying "try C" or "try B" - you don't really get a choice of what car park you're in do you (other than east or west)... so how can you try anything other than the exit from the carpark you're directed to?

We parked up in W51 or 52 last year around 9.30 on the Wednesday morning. Was worried when I realised we were parking the other side of the main road. However it turned out it wasn't that far to Gate A and we strolled straight through around 10.30ish. Easiest year I've ever had.

Tried the queueing overnight thing in 2011 at Gate B. Horrendous experience that I'll never repeat doing.

The previous 3 years have been pretty straight forward in terms of getting in for us, we come from B'ham and get their on the Tuesday which probably helps. This year though I will be going by coach for the first time, any idea if it takes much longer by coach?

The descriptions of gate A last year are encouraging. Bloody awful when I last got the coach in 2011.

Will probably get there around 2 pm this year, how were coach queues at that time in 2013?

Arrived gate D around 11am wed, straight in. Easiest drive to site with minimal queue on roads to site compared to previous years, started queuing around 2 miles from site in car, parked in W53, furthest away we've ever parked.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone else agree/see queueing so early to arrive at the back of a long queue that has already formed overnight (if they allow that again this year) is pretty pointless? The spot we got wouldn't be much better and there appears to be plenty right up to Wednesday tea time most years

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
