The 2014 Fat Boy Slim set list thread !

Guest Franky

For those of you who like to have a little dance to the Fat Boy whilst he's rocking out some tunes I thought we could have this thread to help each other find out when and where he will be playing. Last year I caught him Thursday night and again in the he beats hotel on Friday I think it was. I couldn't get near his Arcadia set as I had to come from the other side of the festival.

So ......... If you hear a rumour or have some good intel post it in here and let's build the set list :)

Enjoy

Not exactly the kind of responses I was looking for really. Maybe if you don't like him you shouldn't bother reading threads regarding his sets..

That said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and thanks for the link to the set.. I shall give it a listen..

The thing about Fatboy Slim is he produced a series of very good albums, the last of which was released a decade ago (some would say beyond that, but I really enjoyed Palookaville). He's essentially been dining off the back of that era ever since, despite dabbling in remixes and collaborations. He built a name for himself as a live DJ through his early albums and his choice of decent big beat break music, all of which is great.

The problem is he's not doing anything new any more, and to hear him start sets in 2013 using the same samples he milked dry a long time ago from music he made fifteen years earlier is made worse by the fact he's been using the same samples at every other gig he's done since that point in time. Hearing that Miami set rubenz posted was very disappointing. It's all very well and good that the Americans have now 'discovered' Electronic Dance Music (!!!) but Fatboy seems to be chasing the market now instead of running it like he used to.

What he needs to do is put out a new album which captures the spirit of his earlier work but drives the genre forward. He used to be great at that. Now he hosts his sets like your uncle who's had a little too much bourbon.

If he actually takes you there, I agree. But judging by his Miami set, that's not what he's doing at all, he's just putting out predictable generic bangers and chucking in his 'Fucking In Heaven' sample in the breakdown, then whipping the crowd up for a DROP every forty five seconds. It would be nice to have a nostalgic set from early-era Fatboy, but even better if he could do something innovative.

Each to their own though, he's got plenty of people who love what he does now, it's just not for me.

Well I'm watching the Miami set right now, gotta say, its working for me lol

Saying that it doesn't touch his set on the Other stage in 2005 ! which incidentally I was in the front row for, got a pair of those wicked glasses and was on the TV lol

Soooooooooooooooo now the "is Fatboy dead" debate over ! can we please now use this for people who actually want to go and se him :P

Peace out !

Where ever he plays this year we will try and see him, we've always wanted to see him and love the live bestival album

I personally think he's shite, but, I have seen him 4 times or so and he is a DJ who lacks basic DJ skills in terms of mixing 2 records together but is exceptionally good at reading a crowd! He tailors his sets for the occasion, so at Glastonbury I would expect him to pull out all of the old classics - any fan of his will have a brilliant time and will be left a sweaty mess, of that I am absolutely sure

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
