For the ones how would like to see and hear some of the new material played live, here's a link to Elbow's full concert (1h48min) in Paradiso Amsterdam.

It was their first concert after 14 months, and broadcast on Dutch public TV last night.

I was there and think it was Superb. Can't wait to see them again at Glasto!

Enjoy! Cheers!

Played Great Expectations last night at Birmingham apparently, other than that all SSK and later. Such a shame. Only 16 songs as well, surely they could've thrown in a couple more oldies. Don't think we'll ever get to hear stuff like Powder Blue, Red or Newborn again. At least they seem to have dropped Open Arms.

I'll still probably watch them, if only at least to get a decent spot for Arcade Fire.

you see I quite like that Giddy Aunt line, and I'm a right filthy mouthed c**t. But I reckon it works in context. When I heard the new album I was pleasantly surprised.

And generally, if a band wants to play their newer stuff, I can sort of understand it. Maybe they don't really feel a connection with something written over 10 years ago. Maybe this is where they are now. I'm not a huge Elbow fan, just a passing interest in them, but I like the post ssk stuff more than the older ones, I think.

I agree with you, they should of course lean heavily towards the new stuff, but not to play a single song from 3 albums, when they only have done 6 is unprecendented. Especially when the old stuff in sound and lyrics arent exactly far removed from the new stuff.

It's just odd.

I wonder if the setlists are more likely to be biased towards the recent albums in Europe where they may have been completely unknown before SSK. They played quite a few old songs in the Maida Vale session, it would be more likely that try would drop a couple into the UK gigs than the European ones.

I don't know, just speculating.

I agree that was odd. They played 3-4 'old' songs on the BaRB tour date I saw and they played quite a few in that BBC session.

Just had a sneaky peek at Setlist.com, only one 'old' song on each of the UK dates so far...

that would make sense, apart from the fact they didnt play a single pre-SSK song even at glastonbury in 2011 - and they have a long history of playing the festival to big crowds so they must know people know their old stuff. Especially when you think grace under pressure was partly recorded there!

Just back from the Glasgow gig. Absolutely excellent, on top form. The new album is (unsurprisingly) excellent live and they played a superb acoustic version of 'Great Expectations' that was worth the ticket money alone. Nothing from the first two albums but I've seen that plenty of times.

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
