If this truly was in reverse then this poster would be meaningless to the illiterate, Gaelic-speaking, shortbread eating, ginger, alcoholic indegenous people, all murdering each other and trading vegetables and wood instead of using currency, that's how Scotland would be if we had never taken the effort to civilise you... Actually that's how Scotland is now! What has the union ever done for you? You should go for independence, you're right, it's been a waste of time.*

* All of this is a joke, not serious at all, there's no need for any noble Scots, for whom I have the utmost respect, to get angry if one of their English friends helps them to read this post. We're all friends here :)

You need to learn to spell before calling anyone illiterate....

This is also a joke ;)

Think I'll stick to discussing this issue in the more intelligent thread in the Discussions part of this forum. You should have a read through, you seem to be rather dim.

Bowie tells the Scots to remain in the Union yet starts a gig I was at with Provo catchphrases in Irish after "Rebel Rebel.

He's a mixed up lad is our Davey B.

hasnt lived in (or paid tax) in the UK since 1973 either.

but hey! pop stars are the highest authority on political matters.

As we've gone completely off topic! I'm in favour of independence. As someone posted above, somewhere that will never, ever have a tory government. I'd happily move there - plenty of friends there too. As for England being left to the tories - well, whose fault is that? If people are stupid enough to vote for them, thats not Scotland's fault. We get the government we deserve.

Pretty selfish attitude that. So you just want to throw up the border and to hell with the rest of the uk? What about wales? Northern Ireland? Screw them too right?

The tories actually got 36% of the votes in 2010. How is that us getting the government we deserve?

You think scotland is going to thrive with a hostile tory government on its border? setting your interest rates etc?

Together we could keep the fuckers out. A tory goverment is a disaster for the poor people of the rest of the UK.

Why do you care more about scottish people that other nationalities?

not really as simple as that though is it, people are innately selfish and vote what benefits themselves but the election turn out is so low that a large section of society are being ignored. Until we get an electoral system like they have down under where everyone is compelled to vote we are never gonna get democracy here.

After his comments at the Brits about Scotland wanting to become a proper country he can sod right off.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've read on Efestivals.

Edit... just to clarify... the reason it is so ridiculous is not that you want independence, but the reaction to DB. What did he say? "Stay with us Scotland"? Isn't that just a nice little message saying "Hey, we like you guys, don't abandon us". It's not really something you can find fault in.

One of the worst things about this referendum is that either outcome is going to be followed by Cameron smugly gloating. If the outcome is no, he's going to wrap himself in his masturbatory Union Jack and bang on about a marvellous Britain strong and united and how he's strengthened the UK. If the outcome is yes, the Tories will romp home in the next election. Argh, I hate him so much!

The problem is, either way he'll end up battering Scotland- without the threat of independence he won't even have to bother pretending he gives a shit about anything north of his mansion. If they do become independent, he'll just screw them over as a separate country.

I do wonder- would I get deemed a foreign national and deported back to Scotland?

Ack! Bowie was right!

"I would vote Conservative if there were some cool celebrities voting Conservative"

:P

Didn't understand this when I read it this afternooon, but I'm watching the show on iPlayer now, and I've been properly laughing out loud all the way through it. I thought Stewart Lee was not as good this time round in the last two episodes, but this week's is one of the best half hours of his entire career.

Also got to see Chris Morris briefly cracking up at his own nonsense, near the end of the episode- something about George Clooneys blood vein with a baby sword fish in it being somehow satirical- I wish he'd do more stuff, feels like ages since he last did a proper tv series!

One of the things I was disappointed with in the last two episodes was how Chris Morris was completely interchangeable with Armando Iannuchi in the earlier series, and Armando was better to be honest. It was funny when he lost it during that George Clooney bit though, I reckon they should do a whole episode of unedited footage of how they do those interview scenes, I reckon they must be mostly improvised, and there'll be tonnes of silly shit that got filmed, just waiting for us to see it.

Oh dear..... current polls suggest thats 45% of Scotland you are talking about.

I really hope I dont meet anyone like you at Glastonbury this summer.

Oh dear .... you're having a pop at someone on the basis that you don't like the suggestion they're putting onto the people of Scotland and you think that's bad ... and then you post blatant bollocks to disrespect your own countrymen yourself.

Cos I dunno what polls you've been looking at, but there's no one of the real polls which has come close to suggesting that "45% of Scotland" will vote yes.

But hey, no doubt you'll tell me that there's a massive groundswell of growing support for independence. I wonder why the polls show nothing of that?

I agree its selfish. Sadly, most people are when it comes to voting - why else would 36% vote tory? I hate what theyre doing, as does anyone with a soul. But there must be a lot of selfish folk around. Why else would the tories be in the position they are in the polls despite every bastard thing they have done since 2010? The voting system has to change to reflect peoples views - but it seems not enough people want that. At least, not many are pushing for it.

I dont care more about the Scots than others (Im English) - I'd be more than happy for large parts of England to say bollocks to Westminster as well. In an ideal world Id rather see the South East split from the rest of the UK! :) The Scots consistently vote Labour/SNP yet are ruled by tories. Cant say I blame them for wanting out. As for 'together we could keep the fuckers out' - really? That hasnt always worked has it? And, despite all they have done, they could still get back in next time ffs!

I've spent many years (about 30) of my life campaigning for change. And I'm tired. People are happy to complain but not to do anything about it. Whatever the bastards do there is much gnashing of teeth and outraged online comments but very little actually being organised to try to fight it. I've had enough. Time to enjoy a bit of life without being ruled by tories. Selfish? Yes I guess so. And I can put up with being called that by people actively working to change things. Those who just complain but dont put their head above the parapet, well I dont see the difference.

I might be tired but this looks like an opportunity to show that things can be done differently. That we dont have to just put up with everything. Maybe, in the long term, it will lead to bigger change.

Well at least you admit to being entirely selfish. Fair play to you for your honesty.

Personally, I care for society as a whole, not just myself. And only a tiny few will benefit from scottish independence, while many more will suffer than in the current situation.

But you are "tired" so no longer give a shit. What an inspiring individual you are!

You might want to ask yourself why you're siding with the right on this one.

The corollary to this argument is that it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to challenge the neoliberal naratives that have had a hold over the UK since the early eighties.

Why would we want to be handcuffed to an ever right-veering Thatcherite asset-flogging war-mongering basket-case of a country with a mainstream political agenda steered by Nigel Farage?

Perhaps the biggest chance of change for England is if an independent Scotland is a success and voters south of the border get to see that there is an alternative to austerity and the domination of the entire nation by the Bullingdon Club.

I'm siding with my social class. And scottish independence could be disastrous for the poor people of england, wales and nothern ireland. Yet no scottish person seems to give a shit about them. Why not? Do you think we were all voting for the tories?

Thats one of the things I was trying to say. If independence is seen to work then people will see that there is an alternative to austerity. That might well be a better long term aim.

Sorry Im not perfect like you Russy. But I do care about society as a whole and always have done.
