I wouldn't say it's watered down, just a different setlist that isn't thrash heavy. Certain fans just want them to play things that are over 20 years old and nothing else.

To be honest, I've been disillusioned with tallica for a while. Seen them 9 times and the last 4 they've played pretty much the same set. This is a welcome change for me personally.

Fuel needs to be dropped from the set, they always fucking play it. Love the song but it's been a staple of the set for about 16 years now.

I'd rather hear trapped under ice or maybe unforgiven2 or of wolf and man something they don't play at EVERY SHOW

Don't get me wrong, I'm still loving this, and lightning1000 is right, it's a change to hear unforgiven etc but there's stuff I'd have preferred.

King Nothing is one I'm yet to see 'em do over the last 7-8 times of seeing em so that'd have been cool.

I've seen Metallica do a festival set of almost exclusively obscure album tracks that the hardcore love, tonight they are trying to pull of a set that will have some mass appeal and not doing a terrible job of it.

You know, looking at the fans behind them, alot are really young and that earth song reference really hits home. Come on Jarvis, you must be in the vicinity...and drunk.

How do they estimate the attendance? Its not loged or anything so how would they know?

Crowd control estimates from the festival organisers, I would assume. They have a lot of overview of things with cctv, crane camera, helicopters and such.

Unfortunately i was sat on my couch for that. I'm desperately depressed not to be there. What a pleasure it is to see a band so obviously desperate to put on a show. 2 knocks on the door from the neighbours illustrates my enjoyment!

I don't like metal but I did enjoy watching that set, very talented musicians. Think that probably went down well and most will be happy. No hippies harmed in a mosh pit so all good Well done, Metallica!

Perfectly judged, no point playing a load of obscure album tracks to a crowd of predominantly non-metal fans who booked tickets without the knowledge you were playing, the managed to keep the heavy metal elements there but also by choosing some of the soft stuff show off some of there amazing musical talent.

I think the genre may have won over some new fans tonight, Metallica have always been a point of entry into metal music.
