bands that should reform but won't

Prompted by a track played on 6music this morning, I've just dug out some old XTC cds and am currently singing my head off. :D

I really wish they'd reform, they were a fantastic band.

But they never will. One of the main guys doesn't want to associate himself with any of that any more. :(

Any others?

(edit: just read the XTC wiki for the first time in (I guess) nearly a decade, and it seems that it's not impossible that there might be some newer XTC stuff come along at some point - because Partridge and Moulding have resumed contact. Here's hoping!).

I'd like to see The The again. Their first 4 albums are still all classics in my opinion, some timeless songs in there which still stand well today (in both subject matter and style)

oooo, nice one ... I had the pleasure of seeing Matt & Co at Brixton Academy around 20 years (!) ago.

When you say "the first four albums", are you including "Burning Blue Soul" in that? It was originally released as a Matt Johnson album, but nowadays it's labelled as The The ... and it's probably my favourite of all.

The The still exist, but it's been just Matt for the last decade+ ... and he played Glastonbury around 10 years ago too.

I was going from Soul Mining through to Dusk (the classic years, for me).

I was lucky enough to see them with Mr Johnny Marr at Glastonbury 2000, where they played the dirtier, disinfected era versions of their older tunes. Was fantastic, thought I'd missed them because I'd been up all night and crashed at the tent, but I was pitched right on the walkway looking out onto the other stage and crawled out of my tent to the sound of Infected, bleary eyed and glad to have been woken.

The Smiths reunion will happen. Of that I am convinced. It probably won't be called "The Smiths" but may be called "Morrissey and Marr."

Far, far too much money on the table for it not to happen, and with age and health concerns, the opportunity for one big final pay day will eventually prove too much to resist.

Hmmm ... both of them seem to have too much of a creative urge to want to go back, and with Morrissey owning half the bedsits in Manc (I think Robbie Fowler owns the other half :P) I'm not sure he needs the money.

I'd like to echo Talking Heads, Husker Du, Screaming Trees and XTC.

I'd see Floyd if it happened, but I'd be dubious. The Smiths shouldn't happen (and thankfully won't).

I'd also really like Hope of the States, Ride, and the original Human League from when they were actually good. Sonic Youth as well but at least I've seen them plenty.

    • Just watched Annie Lennox at Wilderness Festival as part of her global feminist The Circle initiative. She curated the 2 hour slot with special guests including Jessie Ware and then did  a 1/2 hour slot singing her and Eurythmics hits at the end. Her voice is amazing still and I am convinced she would do an amazing set on Sunday afternoon. She even wore a jacket with a sparkling CND symbol on the back! It’s a sign!!
    • 1. Jack White - Frozen Charlotte 2. Buffalo Traffic Jam - Pictures Of You 3. The Rolling Stones - Foreign Tongues
    • Is it one of those bollocks things where ones is a festival and the other would be a show lol
    • Hello,   I have no idea what the answer is to your question, but wish you well in your quest for information.
    • Yes, I was asking about comedy, and also it seems odd that after bringing it back last year, the Seaside Stage seems to have gone again. Probably why Massaoke (basically a big karaoke sing-along) is now on the Castle Stage. But on all three days?! Does all seem a little desperate this year, though hopefully I will be proved wrong. Still think the Mary Wallopers fiasco has probably put a lot of artists off performing at Victorious, hence the reduction in stages and acts appearing... One of the best things about Victorious in the early days was its value for money compared to some of the other bigger festivals, but this certainly not the case anymore...
