bands that should reform but won't

Prompted by a track played on 6music this morning, I've just dug out some old XTC cds and am currently singing my head off.

I really wish they'd reform, they were a fantastic band.

But they never will. One of the main guys doesn't want to associate himself with any of that any more.

Any others?

(edit: just read the XTC wiki for the first time in (I guess) nearly a decade, and it seems that it's not impossible that there might be some newer XTC stuff come along at some point - because Partridge and Moulding have resumed contact. Here's hoping!).

But I think Pink Floyd need to. And play the Pyramid at Glasto.

how many bands have reformed, or are still playing with all the original members? I don't see why, if the remaining 3 got together they shouldn't call themselves Pink Floyd.

Many people thought they weren't the Floyd without Syd in them.

oooo, nice one ... I had the pleasure of seeing Matt & Co at Brixton Academy around 20 years (!) ago.

When you say "the first four albums", are you including "Burning Blue Soul" in that? It was originally released as a Matt Johnson album, but nowadays it's labelled as The The ... and it's probably my favourite of all.

The The still exist, but it's been just Matt for the last decade+ ... and he played Glastonbury around 10 years ago too.

I was a huge Husker Du fan back in the 80s so that's my choice.

I was going from Soul Mining through to Dusk (the classic years, for me).

I was lucky enough to see them with Mr Johnny Marr at Glastonbury 2000, where they played the dirtier, disinfected era versions of their older tunes. Was fantastic, thought I'd missed them because I'd been up all night and crashed at the tent, but I was pitched right on the walkway looking out onto the other stage and crawled out of my tent to the sound of Infected, bleary eyed and glad to have been woken.

check out Burning Blue Soul, in a dark room late at night with a big spliff. It doesn't have much in the way of singalongs, but it's a superb album.

Hmmm ... both of them seem to have too much of a creative urge to want to go back, and with Morrissey owning half the bedsits in Manc (I think Robbie Fowler owns the other half ) I'm not sure he needs the money.

I'd like to echo Talking Heads, Husker Du, Screaming Trees and XTC.

I'd see Floyd if it happened, but I'd be dubious. The Smiths shouldn't happen (and thankfully won't).

I'd also really like Hope of the States, Ride, and the original Human League from when they were actually good. Sonic Youth as well but at least I've seen them plenty.
