I honestly don't get what all the hate is about..

Definitely maybe is one of the best debut albums ever released.

Morning Glory, arguably one of the best albums ever released.

Be here now, i'll agree it was too long and wasn't their best work..by far but it still has some gems in it (D'you know what I mean especially)

Standing on the shoulders of giants was a good album: Go let it out, Who feels love, Gas Panic, Roll it over and F*cking in the bushes are all great songs.

Heathen Chemistry: Stop crying your heart out, Songbird, Little by little and born on a different crowd all great.

Don't believe the truth: In my opinion their second best album and their return of form..Lyla, The importance of being idle, let there be love, love like a bomb..all fantastic.

Dig out your soul: Again not their best album..imo only The shock of the lightning, Falling Down and I'm outta time are really worth listening to.

If you take into account all the b-sides such as The masterplan, Stay Young, Listen Up, Lets all make believe, Half the world away etc etc..they have some fantastic songs and where at a point in time the best/biggest band in the world.

In my opinion their downfalls were themselves and the media..the fact that they kept comparing themselves/were compared to the beatles was something quite big to live up to considering the beatles' huge success and even though they use beatles references in their lyrics I don't see how they're considered a rip off of the band..yes they were influenced by The rolling stones, the stone roses and The beatles..everyones influenced by someone.

Their other downfall was after such a big debut album, then releasing an even better album and one of the best ever..they flopped with Be here now (even though it sold 9mil albums) it was far from their first 2, and couldn't live up to the quality of DM and WTSMG..which is understandable considering how good they are/were.

Hating a band because of their arrogance is one thing, saying they're shit is another.

I can see why people would hate them because of their attitude, but the songs they released makes it too hard for me to hate them..

people think whats the story morning glory is one of the best albums of all time? Incredible.

I was in the car last night and shakermaker came on the radio. So dated now, and the lyrics...good lord it's dreadful stuff.

Oasis are great if you're 18-21, in a field in pilton with 50,000 other like minded people, it's 1994 or 1995 and you're gurning for britain.

Under ANY other circumstances they are turd

I hear they're reforming without either Liam and Noel - with Bonehead, Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan, Ringo Starr’s son Zac, Tony McCarroll, Alan White, Gem Archer, and Andy Bell.

As there’d be four drummers it may finally make Oasis a bit less flat at Glastonbury.

The lead singer would be Paul - Noel and Liam's brother. As both Gallaghers feel it's time he got loads of cash from the reunion deal.

This thread actually inspired me to listen to Dig Out Your Soul on the way into work this morning. Its awfully bad.

Worst of all its preceded by a 15 minute interview of total tedium, the first 30 seconds of which goes

Noel "what do I want people to take from it? I don't know, I've never known."

Gem: "The feeling that, yes! all this shit we've been told to like, we don't really like it because we really like this. Its a no-brainer when something hits you like that, innit?"

Andy: "Its actually come out feeling really commercial anyway"

Noel: "I don't think its commercial. I don't fucking... I think its fucking proper music, and I think its a classic record but I don't think it commercial"

Andy: "I mean commercial in the same way Paperback Writer's commercial, or Strawberry fields or ... you know"

Noel: "Ah! Yeah! OK, OK"

c**ts

How can you judge an albums quality from its sales?

If you judge bands/artists from their sales..you're stating Psy, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Beyoncee etc are all good artists. Its like saying a song is good because of the amount of views it has..

And to whoever quoted me before, I think DM is one of the best DEBUT albums of all time, DBTT is better imo.

Ok, early thoughts on Swordfishtrombones are not very positive i'm afraid. I thought i would start off with one of his difficult ones to see how i would react. The biggest problem so far is the lack of tunes. Hardly any of it reaches out to me or makes me want to reach out to it. 'Underground', 'Shore Leave', 'In The Neighbourhood', '16 Shells From A 30.6', 'Gin Soaked Boy' and 'Down, Down, Down' have certain things going for them, but none strike me as a stonker.

Its all a bit interesting rather than engaging. There wasn't enough that made me want to join in, which is surely the point, or one of the big ones, of music. Plenty of time for it to grow on me. We shall see.

Starting off with Swordfishtrombones is utter madness. Its about as inaccessible an album as you'll get. From anyone. Its like someone recommending Revolution 9 as a starting point for The Beatles. You really need to track him from the start. Theres a lovely progression throughout his career.

Start with Closing Time and move forward from there. Album by album.

Swordfishtrombones. Who told you to do that?! Fucks sake.

Spent all weekend listening to Closing Time. What a fucking album. Listening to 'Martha' not long after I got up on Sunday morning pretty much wrote the whole day off. Beautiful. And 'I hope that i don't fall in love with you' just leaves me whimpering in the corner every time I hear it.

    • I decided to goto bed early for the Aussie game rather than stay up for Scotland. I don't regret my decision, I also love the complete over reaction during the world cup when a player has 1 good game, that Watford winger is now everyones dream signing. Its also funny when clubs get into the hype and end up overpaying for someone who then does nothing in the prem.

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
