Can see A7X, Frank Turner and Pendulum as subs next year. Headliners I'm not so sure about but I can see Arcade Fire and The Prodigy but if we are going to ditch the 5 year rule after Blink it would be Muse, but is mainly because I want to see them :D

There was never a 5 year rule, and the only reason that seems plausible Blink 'broke it' is due to a serious lack of options. Muse could play next year with a new album if they are considered a better option than others by the festival, but it isn't as though Blink being booked has all of a sudden changed the booking approach.

Muse could with a new album I guess, would be pretty lazy but FR doesn't seem to care about that anymore

They never really cared about lazy, they cared about selling tickets. Recycling acts frequently doesn't help sell tickets because it puts off repeat customers, which probably isn't as important any more.

Arcade fire will not be touring next year. The black keys maybe I guess, we'll see how the next album comes along.

They won't be touring extensively but they will play a small handful dates - most probably an equivalent to Hyde Park, if not Hyde Park again... They know people will want to see them in the UK in 2015 and will be here even if it's just a brief outing. I don't think they'll want to headline R&L again, I reckon IOW stands a good chance of having them in 15' - maybe TitP.

By 2015 they will have toured the UK twice already supporting Reflektor, plua possibly an autumn tour I thought was rumoured. They will have given UK fans plenty of opportunities to see them and will probably want time off to relax or start working on new material.

Nah its genuinely unlikely they'll tour the UK again in 2015. Its not really their style

They headlined R&L in 2010 after a small handful of intimate dates, returned in the autumn for a full arena tour and then returned again in 2011 for 2 big outdoor gigs - Edinburgh and London as well as another arena show in Manchester. I reckon they'll come back in 2015 for at least one, one-off show somewhere. I'd say that would be in line with there 'style'.

I just reckon that they'll want to have more time at home now win and regine have a kid. And its a long way to go for a one off show. Could happen but id be very suprised.

Fair point about Win and Regine's kid - I guess that'll impact any and all decisions to tour. I guess it all depends on how well the preposed Autumn tour sells as well. If it's instantly, I guess we can suspect there'll be a big outdoor show next year.

  • 2 weeks later...

Those three headline will alienate the shit out of a lot of festival goers.

If The Strokes headlined next year would they get a 'too soon and they don't deserve it' reaction like Blink or would they get a pass because we mostly like or tolerate tem?

They'd get a pass because it's only a shit booking if I don't like them.

I'd still think it was a shit booking, but at least they've got a nice new albums worth of material to play

Anyway;

Metallica - Kings Of Leon - Pearl Jam

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
